Fleet Commander, by Eriksen Software, is an Android naval strategy sandbox that puts fleet design and command in the player’s hands. The app provides a ship-construction toolkit and scenario editor so players can build vessels and test tactics in custom engagements. It emphasizes creative freedom and iterative experimentation, making it suitable for strategy enthusiasts, naval history fans, and simulation players who enjoy design-led challenges on mobile devices.

In this game you construct fleets and resolve battles in a sandbox setting. The core loop centers on design, deployment, and observation of combat outcomes. The app supplies a quantified component set, including a library of over 60 weapons and more than 40 ship classes, which supports role differentiation and arms-race style matchups.

What kind of game is Fleet Commander?

How do scenarios and maps shape tactics?

Here engagements occur across varied theaters that demand different approaches. Fleet Commander includes five distinct battle maps and ten scenarios set in climates such as Arctic, jungle, and desert, plus port and underwater environments. Those environment types force players to weigh mobility, sensor reach, and weapon selection when composing a fleet for a particular mission profile.

What does the construction toolkit demand from players?

Players interact with a highly detailed ship-building system that goes beyond preset templates, giving control over hulls, armament placement, and loadouts. The developer designed the mechanics to reward precise choices rather than random upgrades. The app targets Android devices and reports compatibility back to Android 4.4 or higher, which determines the install base and performance envelope on older hardware.

Is the learning curve approachable?

New players encounter a learning curve because the design centers on creative freedom and player-directed scenarios. Early sessions focus on experimentation and iterative tuning instead of guided missions. Community feedback highlights appreciation for deep customization, which suggests invested players find the detail rewarding; however, that same detail increases the time needed to reach consistently effective fleet designs.

What keeps players coming back?

Players return for open-ended experimentation and variation in match outcomes. The unrestricted sandbox allows near-infinite combinations of ships, weapons, and environmental setups, driving repeat testing and theorycrafting. The developer’s other tactical title, Wargame Constructor, shares a similar emphasis on modular design, making Fleet Commander a logical follow-up for players who enjoy iterative construction and competitive scenario tuning.

Fleet Commander 0/4
  • Pros

    • Library of over 60 weapons offers substantial tactical options
    • More than 40 ship classes enable distinct fleet roles
    • Five maps and ten scenarios provide varied environmental challenges
    • Unrestricted sandbox mode supports endless scenario experimentation
  • Cons

    • Open-ended design focus increases initial setup and testing time
    • Highly detailed ship-building mechanics create a steeper learning curve
    • No explicit multiplayer mode mentioned in available information

Bottom Line

A practical pick for designers who enjoy self-directed tactical play

Fleet Commander is a solid choice for players who prefer hands-on, design-driven strategy and iterative experiment cycles. However, its emphasis on player-directed construction increases setup time and demands patience before combat yields consistent results. Players who want immediate, tightly guided campaigns may find the approach slower; those who like methodical planning and repeated testing will find meaningful depth here.

Fleet Commander is a totally customizable sandbox enabling you to pit any combination of WWII era battleships, battlecruisers, cruisers and destroyers against each other in real-time combat scenarios. Fleet Commander includes ships from the United States, United Kingdom, Nazi Germany, Italy, France and Japan. Using Google Maps as a backdrop, you can design your battles to take place anywhere in the world. Design your scenarios based on actual historical battles, or design battles that never happened. See what happens when an Iowa class battleship meets Yamato, or HMS King George V with some County class heavy cruisers take on Bismark and Tirpitz.. Zoom in and watch as the big turrets of the battleships rotate and belch fire and smoke while they hurl their shells towards their targets. Immediately switch the view to watch the shells zero in and strike targets inflicting damage based on shell size and armor. Zoom out and get a big picture view of the developing battle. The options are endless and limited only by your imagination.

The list of available ships in Fleet Commander is extensive and built to be historically accurate for speed, armor, main gun turrets, torpedo mounts, gun size , ranges and rates of fire. Some of the available ships were designed, but never historically built.. allowing for great what if situations. Scenarios can be constructed in minutes and easily edited to achieve the desired results. Play your scenarios by setting orders for your ships and watch what happens without needing to micro-manage. Ships will pick targets and engage according to the orders you have preset and/or change individual ship orders as the battle develops.

Time acceleration is available to speed through some of the journey until the battle is joined.
