FileLock is an application for locking and securing your files using a powerful encryption algorithm. It is password-based, meaning you enter a password to lock your files and then later enter that same password to unlock them. Once your files have been encrypted into a locked file, you can do anything with it - email, send over IM/Skype, backup, upload, etc. Our locked format is entirely portable and can be easily opened by any copy of FileLock on any computer (provided the correct password is entered, of course). Technical details: 448-bit Blowfish encryption Multithreaded internals for taking advantage of multiple cores Architecture-independent (Intel and PPC) Limitless in terms of maximum file size or amount of data Built on the trusted and proven OpenSSL library bundled with Mac OS X.
Hate that you have make a new file every time you encrypt and decrypt.
Summary
I was very disappointed. As one of the few file locking apps for Mac, I did not expect anything terribly exceptional. However, having to create new files every time you do anything with the file. I encrypted a document I was working on. Poof, new file. (I must admit that encrypting files is as simple as drag and drop, which is nice.) I go to work on the encrypted file later, enter my password, and poof, an additional file. Now, this does not seem to be very safe because you are bound to either forget to delete a file or forget to empty your trashcan. Both of these seems to be very annoying and cause your security to depend on if you remember to delete the fifteen files that were created. Could have been good, but I guess I'll just have to settle for my files being wide open to the world because this just isn't worth it.
