This basic but handy program effectively renames files, but may be too limited for serious use. File Boss' mundane interface is easy to operate and gives you a couple of renaming options, including the ability to rename documents by extension or add a prefix or numbering scheme to any file. You also can remove characters and standardize the letter case of filenames. The program saves you time by batch-renaming documents. Also, it can edit ID3 tags of your MP3 files. However, unlike similar tools, it can't create filenames based on any combination of tags extracted from a file. In our tests, the program was easy to use and worked fast, though we wish we could preview changes before they were made. Unfortunately, it can't rename folders nor save renamed files to a different location. File Boss, with its 10-use trial restriction, doesn't really make a solid choice for professional users, but because it handles its business at such a rapid pace and is simple to use, we can still recommend it to all users who need this basic functionality.
