We admit that one of the reasons we don't post more photos on the Internet is that we are just plain lazy when it comes to uploading and editing our images. We connect the camera, we wait for the editing software to load, we futz around with unintuitive menus and functions--even basic resizing and cropping is a hassle. Fortunately for us, now there's FastStone Maxview. This basic photo viewer and editor allows users to make quick, simple adjustments to their photos. Photoshop this is not, but for quick, basic edits, the program is great.

The program's interface is simple and fairly intuitive. Users open photos and are then able to make a variety of basic changes, including rotating, resizing, cropping, and adjusting to lightness, saturation, hue, and RGB levels. The program also allows users to view their photos as a slideshow to which music can be added. More experienced users will appreciate a variety of more-advanced settings, including adjustments to facilitate the handling of raw images and the option to enable CMS. All of the program's features are easy to use, and we like how quickly the program loads and functions. This is a great choice both for novice users who get overwhelmed by having too many features and more experienced users who are looking for ease of use over power.

FastStone Maxview has a 45-day trial period. It installs desktop icons without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users seeking a quick and simple way to edit their photos.

Great program for reviewing and organizing images

Simple interface for image review and organization - not loaded with unnecessary options and menus. Contains best options for reviewing images (copy to, move to, crop, rename, etc). Works with many useful filetypes (including zip, raw and psd).

No cons for reviewing and organizing images.
Summary
I have programs that I use to edit and manipulate images, but most are large programs bloated with many functions, options and menus. I was looking for a simple image viewer that allowed me to manage and organize many images and contained all necessary options for image review. MaxView allows me to easily scroll through many image formats and rename, delete, copy to, move to, rotate, crop and even open an external editor if necessary. Most of the image viewers I tested did not contain the rename or crop options.

Summary
This is listed as free, but the review notes that is a "has a 45-day trial period." How do you figure that? My rating is arbitrary; I haven't tried it. It just irritates me when you get "free" software that has a trial period...
Small and simple program that is good for image viewing

Pros
It is a very small downlaod and is has some pretty useful, if standard editing tools. The price for the licenses is great too.
Cons
Forget about asking for tech support, you won't get any. If you have an issue that involves the actual purchase they will respond but issues with the actual software are not at all important to them.
Summary
Our company bought 80 licenses for the program on a recommendation, and the program worked great for most users. We had two people however who needed to make color annotations to a .tif file. They could not figure out how to do this so we contacted tech support which is only available through email support. We have sent multiple emails to them and have not had a single response. Looking at other reviews accross the net, we apparently are not the only company to have this issue. Fortunately for us, one of our employees had used IrFanView and knew that we could do the color annotation in it. Now we are stuck with all these licenses for a program that we don't need and it was replaced by a program that was free.

Pros
Direct access/viewing of zip files is worth the download alone. The resizing tools are excellent, and the simple but effective image adjustment features are also easy and handy.
Cons
None if it is used as an image viewer/light tweaker. It is not a graphic design package ala photoshop, but I did not expect that of it.
Summary
A really refreshing find. Works as it is supposed to, with creative and very useful features. No junk that I've found, no stupid whistles or bells. Everything makes sense, works well, no hassles, lots of smiles. Good stuff.

It is light and fast although one might prefer a programs that includes a viewer and an editor of images so you stay in the same program. To view, it is better than the windows viewer
