ExtraWebcam is the software that enables you to use Canon PowerShot and EOS series cameras as regular webcams for video conferencing, video recording, remote area monitoring and other webcam tasks. It supports any Windows software that take a standard video capture source as input such as Skype, MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messenger as well as online services like Ustream, Veetle, YouTube. You only need to select ExtraWebcam video source, connect your camera via USB and power it on, the rest will be done automatically - search for a connected camera and taking control over it.

ExtraWebcam has a tray icon utility that helps you to work with your camera. You have the live viewfinder window there and camera settings controls like shooting mode, shutter, aperture, ISO, white balance, zoom. You can use ExtraWebcam for automatic interval time-lapse shooting, it's possible to record video stream and time-lapse sequences into MJPEG AVI files.

Summary
Very useful utility allowing to convert selected Canon Powershot cameras into webcams. A webcam built in into a laptop/netbook often is insufficient for me, such as when several people participate in a Skype conversation or when I need to show a layout or a small item on projection screen. In such situation I can adapt my camera for the purpose. Unfortunately, the utility running in the background starts on fortunately rare occasions to use excessive amounts of CPU.

a little hinky when upgrading from test version to main version on Windows 7; also need to be careful about de-conflicting with Canon camera software
Summary
I've been playing with this software and my old Canon PowerShot A640 for more than a month now, and, in the meantime, have upgraded from an XP 32-bit system to a Windows 7 64-bit. Sure, as other reviewers have pointed out, the test version of the software comes with an obtrusive "congratulations, it works, now spend $9.95 to upgrade" notice plastered over the "camera preview" window, but, even prior to upgrading, you can take good test photos and videos. Once you've gotten things worked out, you can use it just as advertised, though the limitations of your particular camera will affect the quality of the live or recorded video: On A640s, that means that 320x240 resolution is what you'll get even if you use another program to record at 640x480 or 1280x760. Even hardcore Canon firmware hackers haven't been able to overcome this problem last I checked. When I upgraded to WIndows 7 64-bit, I did run across some set-up hinks. You need to 1) completely uninstall any prior, pre-upgrade versions and 2) be running at administrator level AND 3) disable "user account control" to get a completely smooth install. Otherwise, you'll run into various minor problems which can mostly be ignored, but which will lead to complications. Also, it won't work at all while the Canon camera window software is running. If the Canon software auto-starts when you turn on the camera - as with the A640 and many if not most Canon cameras that use the remote shooting software - you'll have to shut it down first (or uncheck the auto-start feature). Finally, when I encountered some of the above problems, I e-mailed the software developer and received helpful, polite, near-instantaneous replies. I can't of course guarantee that he'll always be around, but having him respond so quickly and helpfully was pretty impressive on a $9.95 piece of code!
Water mark makes it impossible to use

The watermark is very obtrusive, this should not be considered freeware or shareware.
Summary
Unless you are willing to pay the 10 dollars, don't bother downloading it.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD, unless you want it stuck on your pc

I concur with the reviewer above. Not only does it not work, I cannot uninstall it from VISTA & it is stopping me from using any camera device , holding up all my work. If anyone knows how to get rid of it, PLEASE will you help?
