Whether you want to compare Word documents or PERL code, ExamDiff Pro loads any two files of your choice and shows you how they differ from each other.

Similar to its free cousin, but offering up many more options and customization, ExamDiff Pro displays the two files side by side, highlighting differences and allowing you to make changes on the fly. The app's handy interface offers several navigation schemes--buttons that take you to the previous or next change, a drop-down list of differences by line, or mouse functionality going directly to any line in either document.

What's more, if you open a subfolder or file in one directory, the program automatically compares it with the same item in the second. Files can be scrolled in tandem or separately, and there are numerous options for comparing items: looking at differences by line, word, or character; ignoring spaces; or only viewing similarities. Colors can be customized, and changes can be saved to one or both opened files. Output can be in Unix DIFF or HTML.

ExamDiff Pro should appeal to all levels of developers, from those just learning HTML to seasoned pros.

Best file and directory comparison program for Windows.

Pros
Recursive directory comparison. You can configure ExamDiff to scan every file of every sub-directory so that directories (and all contents) that are exactly the same show up differently than directories with any changes.
Cons
If you turn on full directory recursion you might want to enable most of the "quick-check" features for performance, unless you have a SSD! :)

File editing sometimes introduces strange whitespace problems in my Python files (due to tab/space distinction) Occasionally very slow to open and select files/folders to compare (when browsing for files)

I've been using this at work, and it's been invaluable. It's saved me hours, and it'll be my goto whenever I have diffing needs, at work or at home.

ExamDiff Pro is an excellent file comparison tool. After evaluating a number of other programs, and using ExamDiff for several years now, i've found it has the features, interface, and reliability that make it one of the tools i use on a daily basis!

There is NOTHING i don't like about this product!
Summary
ExamDiff Pro is one of those rare programs that simply works. It flawlessly compares any kind of files i throw at it, and the developers have designed an interface that is intuitive. The program is as reliable as the day is long. And one more thing - the support for this product is second to none. Whenever i've had any questions, the response has been instantaneous. ExamDiff is an excellent tool that does what it purports to do, with elegance and competence!

Like being able to copy or plain edit text between two files being compared. Like also the ability to nest directory comparison through chain of sub directories, this saves a lot of time.

Nothing i dont like although the plug ins for office document comparisons could be improved. Developers spend time doing documentation, source code development & making backups of old projects. Last 2 points are fully covered, first needs some work.

I've been using this app for several months now, has never failed. Appears to be error free, is a pleasure to use and was worth every penny spent on it.

No learning curve to get it up and running. It does everything it is supposed to do quickly. It's great, I use it at school for my research. I got hooked on it when everyone at at my internship was using it

It would be nice to be able to compare .doc files and other very common files and be able to filter out header and formatting info possibly.

I can only think of better difference viewers just for specialized things, such as XML. For general use, code and text, ExamDiff is perfect.
