Eudora Mailbox Cleaner is a simple drag'n'drop application which helps you migrating your mail and related data between different client programs. Contrary to most other solutions, it preserves message status flags (read, replied) and re-attaches attachments Eudora stripped from incoming messages. It supports migrating data from Eudora (both, Mac and Windows versions) and Thunderbird to Apple Mail or Thunderbird.

Just plain didn't work.

Doesn't appear to have harmed my computer or my Eudora mailboxes at all. That's really the only Pro here.
Cons
Running OS 10.5.8, and trying to export my Eudora 6.2.3 mailboxes to Apple Mail so I can upgrade the OS. I ran Eudora Mailbox Cleaner -- it spent all day, roughly from 10 AM to 5:30 PM, converting my mailboxes. Finally finished, and I opened in Mail, rebuilt the imported mailboxes as instructed, and it's a disaster. In my "In" mailbox, tons of duplicate messages, and far from everything that was in there shows up. And when I try yo actually preview or open any message, I get... nothing. Just a blank message window. So, I just wasted almost eight hours for zero results.
Summary
With this software, you get exactly what you pay: nothing. Look elsewhere.

I emailed the author with a bug report and he replied the next morning with a patch correcting the problem. I gladly donated US $20 to him.

I had five years of email in Thunderbird to move to Mac Mail, and Mac Mail simply could not get the import right (missed all sorts of mail messages) plus it took forever to attempt the import. Eudora Mailbox Cleaner imported the whole lot in about 5 minutes, with no fuss or bother. I had one problem during the import which turned out to be some badly formatted Thunderbird mbox files (legacy from an earlier mail app). I emailed the developer and he kindly sent me an updated beta that fixed the problem -- all in less than 4 hours!!! Highly recommended!

I have been using Eudora for about 10 years, both on Windows and Mac, having gathered thousands of mail, used dozens of filters for various mailing lists, color labeling, and you name it - i.e been a power user. However, Eudora has always been lousy at dealing with text encodings (ascii characters above 127) all depending on how the original mail was encoded. And really obnoxious is the fact that if you go out-of reach for Airport, Eudora freezes about every minute despite no mails are to be fetched! On Panther, Eudora really performs like a pig. As for IMAP, it's always been dreadful. All in all, I made a detailed comparison between Eudora an Mail.app (Panther version), listing about 29 different aspects of pros/cons. Everything from screen real estate efficiency to raw-code view. I can now just conclude: Migrate to Mail.app! Eudora Mailbox Cleaner will make most things right; some things remain though, so you will have to spend some time getting everything the way you like, most specifically in filters and making color labeling of mails the way you like. I was worried about the lack of italic display of those mails I had sent, but in Mail.app I made a rule to color code my own sent mails to gray. It is just as good, or better, than the italic display in Eudora. I mapped the different labels I had to different (custom) colors in Mail.app. I mapped Priorities to Flagged in Mail.app. Having now regularly used Mail.app for more than 2 weeks, I can really confirm it is sooooo much better, sooooo much smoother and amazingly much faster! You won't regret the move! It took me a fair amount of time to fix everything to get the Address Book right. This is partly because there were some things Eudora Mailbox Cleaner didn't do quite right, and partly because my Eudora address book was in a lousy state. You will probably have to go through every nickname in Eudora to check if you need to do some changes to the automatically converted version in Address Book. That is time consuming, but in the end it is worth it. Great THANKS to Andreas for Eudora Mailbox Cleaner!

Still, this was a great timesaver, and I'm glad i checked it out because I didn't realize Mail.app's import was so flawed.

I've used Euroda since my first e-mail in 1995 so my mail archive is very big (+300MB). I did not like the way Mail imported my Eudora Folder... so I thought this maybe was not such a good idea. This Eudora Mailbox Cleaner app saved my day.
