• Bad port of Windows program

  It may work but I gave up.

  There is a tutorial in the beginning. You can't avoid it. There are no preferences to avoid it each time you launch. It immediately begins searching for Kindle files. I have TB's of data on my internal and attached hard disks so it locked up my computer until I force quit it.

• Easy creation of e-books from PDF files

  Pros

  Converts PDF to make easily readable e-books with both EPUB and MOBI formats.

  Cons

  Does not extract first photo and install it as cover image; in fact, I could not figure out how to insert my desired cover image.

  Summary

  I formatted an 85,000 word document following the Smashwords Style Guide to make it easy to convert to an e-book. Then printed as .PDF. I used Epubor to create .epub and .mobi files, imported them to iBook and Kindle readers on iPhone and iPad. Both types of e-book were well formatted and easy to read. Epubor performed much better than Stanza on this test (see separate review of Stanza). It's not free, but the price is reasonable IMO for what it does.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Sep 5, 2012<p/>Now I've used Epubor more, I have found some limitations. It creates paragraph breaks where they are not intended, and runs together paragraphs sometimes. It also splits words in strange places at the ends of a line. At least the files it generates are consistent with each other: MOBI and EPUB. Some of this may be inherent in converting from left-aligned PDF to full-justified e-book, so I plan to try a Word to ebook converter to see whether it's better. So the e-book is certainly readable, but still needs some editing, which this app doesn't provide you with a way to do.
