EagleFiler makes managing your information easy. It lets you archive and search mail, Web pages, PDF files, word processing documents, images, and more. Organize them into folders and annotate them with tags and notes, or leave everything in one folder and pin-point the information you need using the live search. Since EagleFiler stores its library in Finder format, you can use it in concert with the other tools in your Mac ecosystem.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I tend to take contemporanous notes from many regular meetings (i.e. my personal minutes of meetings), and I also like a program I can drop various pdfs and documents onto and easily catalogue them for later reference. I've worked through most of the mac notes-taking programs. I used to use DevonThink Pro Office, and there wasn't much wrong with it, though the versions aren't particularly pretty in terms of design. Yojimbo also worked well. In the end, though, I've settled with EagleFiler. It archives emails easily, handles multiple libraries well, you can store private libraries in encrypted disk images (e.g. managed via Knox, or EagleFiler can do this itself). The encrypted library feature is the thing I that really sold EagleFiler to me. In the end, DevonThink and Yojimbo aren't bad programs, but having multiple libraries, including some kept privately, has been very handy. I'd love it if it sync'd easily to the iPhone, but at least there are good instructions for getting files from EagleFiler to the iPhone via Airsharing or equivalent. Sadly no syncing, at least not yet. Anyway: EagleFiler is robust, reliable, well-developed and with a responsive developer, can work with encryption and multiple libraries, searches quickly, and is easy to use. I can't see me changing anytime soon.

The implications of the latter are that it can only go from strength to strength and develop what is now a very special tool into a world beater. Stable, very well thought-out, easy to use, responsive developer and utterly in tune with the way many Mac users work.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I really like this app sooo much more than Yojimbo, but Yojimbo let's me keep everything synched automatically between my work machine, my laptop, and my home desktop. That painless synching from Yojimbo makes the slowness tolerable. Eagle Filer is fast. It's far more pleasing to work with an EF library than the same library in Yojimbo. But without .mac synching I just can't use it...and I really want to!

I like the fact that all data is stored in native formats, so I can backup and retrieve all data the way I like. It can do nested folders. It has great search capabilities. It imports all my mail and I can search it. And much more. This relatively new application is updated very often, and most bugs that I ever encountered are gone by now. Comparing various notetaking apps, this one seems to develop into the creme de la creme of them all, it's just really really great, and of course I do recommend it to anyone who's looking for this kind of application!

Quite a few competitors' programs do this or similar. But Eaglefiler also appends the source URL to the text. In addition to unusual touches like this, Eaglefiler makes it a snap to tag items with text and icons of your choice (and/or put stuff in nesting folders if you like.) Or archive your email. And so much more. The developer is amazingly responsive.

I've not seen a better nor simpler program for keeping an orderly and easy to use archive of files, web pages, etc. that you know you may want again someday. The developer is also responsive to emails and obviously knows his stuff and plans to continue developing and improving EagleFiler. He assures me it is quite fast on an Intel Mac; and he plans to make it faster for those of us who still use Power PC Macs in the near future. Now for my caveat; and remember I have not used the program very long. However, I don't think this is the program for archiving email. The developer tells me he is planning some additional features for archiving email and email boxes; but right now, I find it cumbersome for that purpose. You can't delete individual emails once they are imported. (This differs from importing files, web pages, etc. You can delete those when you no longer want them.) Also, when you import additional email, it seems that you have to import and then merge email boxes instead of just adding to an existing email box. (I could be wrong on this. I admit that once I learned I couldn't throw emails away from the archive, I set about putting what I had exported back into Mail to look for a better solution and didn't explore that aspect of EagleFiler to it's fullest, I'm sure.) So yes, do buy the program to use as a storage closet for files and folders; but I'm buying MailSteward for archiving my email.

I store everything from audio files of interviews to websites, images to emails, and drafts and manuscripts to notes. And while DTP is far and away one of the best Mac apps around, I've always been concerned about the fate of the data if the developer disappeared (unlikely, but you never know). <p> Given that I've had colleagues burned by orphaned software (rendering their data inaccessible) I've always either used links to files or kept duplicates of key files I've imported into DTP. In contrast, EagleFiler simply copies the original files to a sophisticated but straightforward managed library. In other words, if the app is orphaned one day (or if I just change to a different app) my files will still be there in their original formats. No third-party conversion software would be needed to "extract" them.<p>I'm sure there are other apps out there that do the same sort of thing, but Mr. Tsai has put a lot of thought into the UI and into using core data facilities to manage the library. As with his well-known (and loved by many!) SpamSieve program, he has developed an excellent application. I look forward to its continued evolution.

Neither of them completely capable of my needs. Yesterday I noticed a mention of EagleFiler on John Gruber's website Daring Fireball. I installed EagleFiler and imported my saved files from SOHO and Yojimbo, spent some time tagging the files and I have to say EagleFiler performs flawlessly. The ability to tag the files with Keywords is necessary for a great File Manager. Both StickyBrain and Yojimbo force the user to use categories for filing which is very limiting. <br> <br> EagleFiler is awesome, give it a try u won't be disappointed
