  I found this on another website and copied it here. Thanks to whoever wrote this originally! --After you install it, you should get a new DWGgateway menu and toolbar in your AutoCAD 2000. If it does not appear automatically, you can manually load it the first time by going to: Tools--> Load Applications..., and in the dialog browse to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\DWGgateway And select the: DGArxR2000.arx that you find there, and [Load] it. From then on, whenever you get a "Drawing file was created by an incompatible version." message in AutoCAD, simply use the Open function on the DWGgateway toolbar or menu. It will create a copy of the drawing in a temp folder for you, and then open it. Saving will automatically convert it to AutoCAD 2000 dwg format. Note that when you first activate the product, it will ask to confirm your name and email, and you are essentially "opting in" for the email announcement of the next version or the PDF capability update.

  I have used DWG Gateway before and it worked fine. Just installed it on my laptop and the toolbar doesn't show up when I open up Autocad. It seems from the reviews that that lots of people are experiencing similar. Has anyone solved the problem and managed to get it working?

  Summary

  Running Autocad 2006. Downloaded installation file and ran the install program. Seemed to install just fine, but there's no indication of a program being installed nor is there any add on to Autocad that would allow me to open and convert dwg files. Not sure what's up with the thing.

• Converted 2009 files

  Pros

  I had received some 2009 files, but I use 2006 in my office - it converted them well. There was a few things that shifted, but overall it the layers, font, lines etc all came through fine. MUCH cheaper than purchasing AutoCAD 2009. Very easy to use.

  Cons

  Confused that I had to restart AutoCAD (which was open while I installed - so it did not show up in the menu) and use it INSIDE AutoCAD the first time. I thought it was a stand-alone program, so I was searching my computer for the program.
