  Cons

  Long wait times. Poor response time. Waited over 40 days to get number ported. I had trouble making payments online. It only finished because I followed through with the request. They wont refund your money if you have issues. Poor phone quality : busy signals when calling, echoing, disconnects.

  Summary

  I would not recommend this service for your primary line.

  Pros

  I've been using the Nettalk Duo for almost a year now, and I'm planning on renewing at the end of my first year (which was included free with the $49 adapter). Great little device! It allows me to use my existing home phones to make free calls anywhere in North America! Call display, forwarding, answering, conferencing all included at no extra charge. And they'll even port over your existing home phone number for free. There's a great little web interface to track all your calls as well. Haven't tried the web calling software yet, as I haven't really needed it. Haven't needed to call customer support either. I can confirm that the service works well with lower speed internet. The min. recommended is somewhere around 1 or 2 mbps I believe. It works great with my relatively slow 5mbps download.

  Cons

  none that I've found.

  Summary

  The cost savings vs. regular telephone service is incredible! Can't imagine ever switching back. Great device, highly recommend!!

• Dropping netTALK after futile attempt to get support.

  Pros

  Call quality generally very good. Unit supports fax after careful configuration of the fax machine.

  Cons

  More than minimum broadband speed is necessary for call quality. Periodically, caller I can hear but caller cannot hear for intervals of five to thirty seconds. I was reasonably satisfied until renewal time. I paid my non-refundable renewal fee and have not been able to get the device to work for more than two months. Support hours are limited to day times with shorter windows on weekend. After waiting two hours in the queue, support hung up. Only get this service if you can call during normal East Coast business hours otherwise you may be unable to resolve technical support issues. Be prepared to wait for hours to get through to the front of the queue. Then you may or may not resolve your problems. The skill of technicians varies substantially.

  Pros

  Cheap but hardly worth the price when weighed against the technical problems and shoddy service the unit provides.

  Cons

  Echoes, disconnects, reports viable phone numbers aren't accessible, scratching and screeching noises. Customer service & technical support seem incapable of acknowledging the device gives a lot of customers the same problems; see pcworld review.

  Summary

  Thought I'd be saving but the frustrated comments of friends and family and my own when important calls are regularly disrupted or can't be made make this service a loser. Buyer beware. If you buy and try those few problems you have will soon accumulate and worsen; don't ignore them send it back within the thirty day trial period.
