For those who tend to accidentally remove icons from their Mac dock, DockLocker for Mac's ability to keep them in place will prove very useful. Everything is accomplished with a click of a button.

You install DockLocker by easily dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. Upon startup it opens a small but functional interface. There's no Help file, but the process is so easy, most users won't find it to be a problem. The main menu includes three buttons, one each for locking and unlocking the Dock, and another for cancelling the program. After pressing the "Lock" button, DockLocker for Mac automatically opens a Terminal window and runs the appropriate scripts. It takes a couple seconds to run the script, but after it completes the operation, the icons on the Dock can no longer be dragged out. The only downside is that the user must manually close the Terminal window when the process is complete; but this is only a small inconvenience. You just need to hit the "Unlock" button to undo the process. In our tests, both of the locking and unlocking operations worked without a hitch.

Since being able to lock the icons in the dock isn't a default option in OS X, this small application will come in handy to any Mac user who has had to deal with missing program icons. DockLocker for Mac works well for keeping the desired programs in the dock without the need to manually enter Terminal commands.

Developer's Description

Lock and unlock your Dock.
This application gives you an option that should come stock with Mac OSX but it doesn't. That is why SimplApps has made a very simple application with two options "Lock" and "Unlock". These options simply run a Terminal script that locks and unlocks your dock. Why would you want to lock and unlock your dock? You want to lock your dock to prevent your self or others from mistakenly removing an application from your dock simply by dragging it out. When locked the icons will not move from its place. You want to unlock your dock to add or remove applications.
