DiscLabel allows you to create your own custom CD and DVD graphics, labels, case inserts, and more, all through a convenient interface. This program offers all kinds of options and tools, making it possible to create just about any design you can imagine for your discs.

Pros

Multiple formats: You can easily create a label or case insert with the list of layout options along the left-hand side of the screen. Possibilities include case covers, designs for the spine of the case, and those for the face of the disc, itself. You can create designs for multiple pieces simultaneously and switch back and forth between them at any time while you're working.

Feature-packed: There are almost no limits to the designs you can create with the tools in this program. From lines and shadow boxes to shading and clip art, you have everything at your disposal that you'll need to make your disc covers your own. There are also templates you can use to get you started, or you can create a unique design completely from scratch.

Cons

Time to learn: The only real drawback to this program is that it offers so much that it can be a bit overwhelming to learn to use. The tutorial video does a good job of providing an overview of what kinds of things the program can do, and it also gives you an idea of where to find different kinds of tools. But the only way you're really going to get good at using this program is to play with it on your own.

Bottom Line

DiscLabel offers a ton of great features to allow you to create beautiful custom disc case designs. While it may take a while to learn, the investment is worth it, if you find yourself doing this type of work frequently. The program is free to try, and the full version costs $35.95.

Pros
It works well with my Mac and iTunes. I really like the tutorials. I receive many compliments for my projects, and questions - "How did you do this?"
Cons
I did have to contact tech support to have a problem addressed, but it was addressed in a timely manner.
Summary
You won't find better templates anywhere else.
A good label design utility at a reasonable price

Pros
It's very easy to use and has some useful templates included. Importing graphics is straight forward, and it seems stable in Snow Leopard. There are a good variety of printing templates available that work well without much fuss.
Cons
I would like to see improved handling of data and titles for archival of file based backups, and not just playlist oriented lists. It would be nice to have nested folder content visible as well. A few of the template designs are a little cheesy.
Summary
For simple design and backup organization DiskLabel will work well. The templates are useable, although some of them are a little bit cheesy, but you can implement your own design and save it as a template for future use. The lack of data based listed and listing nested folder content is a drawback for me as many of the disks I need labels for are backups of files for clients. There is a program called UncoverIt that does this, but does not have the functionality of design as elegantly implemented. Overall DiskLabel is a good software package for the price, and support at SmileOnMyMac is good, as well as development. For quick and easy CD/DVD design and content layout, it's a been a time saver. Short of using professional design and layout software for critical applications, it's a go-to for me.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I agree with Craigmramsay, I used a free earlier version of this software given with a labelmaker for many years, when they discontinued their product I went searching for alternatives and settled on the current version of Disclabel. Living in Australia, the page sizes are different to the US, I sent the sizing details for a widely available label to support, they sent me back a template within 24hrs. That is great customer service and without hesitation I recommend this product - by far and away the best label making software on the Mac.

The interface is simple, elegant and intuitive. Creating custom designs, repurposing an existing layout, or simply using the ou0t-if-box templates is a breeze. A breeze until you have to print them...
Cons
The label-specific templates are not correct at all. Though the software provides a means of adjusting left to right and up and down in order to correct any misalignment printer-to-printer, none of the measurements is reliable. In fact, once you've got a copy to finally print correctly, the very next can be centimeters off. Darned shame...

specifically says there are no limitations for this download that is NOT true... <p>1. it prints DEMO on anything you print and <p>2. warns if you print more than 20 times or work with more than 30 files you'll be forced to purchase.<p>I don't have a problem with this at all, but don't mislead users when they download thinking they'll get a 30 day "no limitations" trial version.

It worked, although it's a little strange, rather than a burn button, it's a click print button and then the program finds the burner and burns the lightscribe DVD or CD. Rather cool except for the Demo burned onto the DVD I have. Considering purchasing it. Lots of templates and help menu is good so far.

I like the fact that I can easily get info from iTunes and my photo applications and everything works so effortlessly. Designing CD jewel case covers is a breeze. I have frequently been complimented on the "professional looking" end result. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this product.

I just wish the type interface was easier to use. it's sometimes difficult to highlight and delete text. Otherwise, no complaints. Smile software gets my vote!
