• Good product but bad licensing

  Pros

  Fast loading of large files Can pause and resume operations Automatically picks up on delimiters used For fixed width files, can specify column widths in a comma separated list Can allow for consecutive delimiters to be treated as a single separator

  Cons

  Can only install the pro version on 2 computers There is no deactivate button, you have to call or email the company to deactivate, as well as to then reactivate. They cap you at 2 activations and provide no means of deactivating. The license should either be per user as more programs are doing in these non-1990s days or allow for online activation AND deactivation of installations (like Office 365, for example).

  Summary

  The program is really only usable for its free features because if you use sandboxes or multiple devices, or ever reformat your computer, you're basically screwed. A good program isn't useful if you can't use it.

• Great tool for handling large files

  Pros

  I need to handle raw flat datasets that come into large chucks before loading them into PostgreSQL. Delimit is an invaluable tool for accessing the raw data. In the age of big data, it is disappointing to see that MS-Windows Notepad, Notepad++, and others alike did not keep pace with the demands for managing large files. Delimit fills the gap. Plus, it is light, simple, and easy. No frills. It DOES the job!

• Useful for manipulating large csv files

  Pros

  If you need to manipulate large csv files, Delimit is really handy. Had a csv file with over two million rows and couldn't open it in Excel. As far as I know, Delimit has no restrictions on file size. It worked perfectly. I tried several others but liked Delimit most.

  Cons

  Nothing important comes to mind. It's a simple program built for specific tasks.

  Pros

  Extracting specific data is a breeze with powerful inbuilt expressions. The file manipulation tools make hard tasks seem ridiculously easy. The ability to handle huge files is a real bonus. If you work with csv files, this tool is a "must have".

  Cons

  None to speak of. Launching from command line (with switches) for automating repetitive tasks might be useful, but not essential.

  Summary

  I just love it. It's saved me hours of hard work crunching smaller files using excel, and does a much better job of it.
