It's a good thing CopyWriter is freeware. It doesn't go far beyond Windows Notepad and offers even less functionality than WordPad. You'll find most of the basic text-editing tools, such as the ability to italicize, underline, or bold words. You also can tweak the font style and size or perform a global find and replace. Although the program's interface is nearly identical to those of other basic text editors, it is nice you can perform most actions via hot keys. CopyWriter now supports multiple languages, but you'll have to download a separate file for each one. The same goes for the extra utilities, which include a calendar and HTML tagging tools. Even though it is free and doesn't take a toll on system performance, CopyWriter is worth downloading only if you really don't like Notepad.

Suits my needs perfectly

Unlike so many others I looked at, CopyWriter preserves the formatting of what you paste onto it from other sources. It opens quickly, and with your selected font type & size. It is packed with many of the features that you'd find on MS Word.
Cons
I'd have liked a toolbar of icons. Author says in Q&A (in Help Files) it would make it look like all other editors, and it's a waste of space. I disagree, but I still think CopyWriter is worthy of 5 stars.

Wanting to type temporary notes or paste text that I wouldn't be saving for long, my only choice was MS Notepad that doesn't retain the original formatting, or WordPad that always opens on its default font, while I was frustrated at the s-l-o-w opening of Word 2007. CopyWriter is a more than adequate solution to these problems.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Aug 14, 2011<p/>Forget the 5 stars!!! I've gone back to MS WordPad, I'll put up with it always opening on its default font rather than my preference. Why? Because it didn't take me long to get fed up with having to click on 'Format' in the CopyWriter menu and then have to select 'Bold' or 'Underline' etc, two clicks rather than one simple click on a 'B' or a 'U' etc. on a toolbar, that's why!<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Aug 15, 2011<p/>Thanks to info I found on the net, WordPad now opens with my preferred font. Open WordPad, select the font you want, and with the cursor at the start of the document hit Enter. Save it as WordPad.wri. Make a shortcut to this to open it each time you want to use WordPad. It is superior to CopyWriter, which I have now uninstalled, because it has the addition of a Word-style toolbar which CopyWriter lacks.

I was looking forward to a simple WP, and I found it in Copywriter. It has all the features one needs for regular writing, without complications of MSWord. That too FREE!!

I find Copywriter a superb straightforward wp. program, after using it for three months. It is a faster, easier version of MS Word in most ways I need, except for its lack of graphics and, perhaps more seriously for some users, its inabiity to handle images and graphics or design. <p> <p>I began by looking for a program akin to MS Notepad, but with a wordcount. CW has one - plus a most handy running wordcount at the foot of the window. Though it says it's limited to files of 60,000 words max., I regularly use one of 73,000 without trouble. Files open instantly and without fuss, unlike with MS Word. The commands are well thought out and all there in simple form on the menu bar. A range of good add-ons can be downloaded. <p> <p>I spent 3 months searching via Google for the programme I wanted. I tried fuller-features word processors in OpenOffice and EasyOffice, but nothing comes near CW for simplicity and satisfaction. The nearest is a word processor called Rough Draft, but it seems to have more glitches. The needs of other users may well be different from mine, but CW is well worth a look. <p> <p>If only it could handle images and graphics, I would never need to bother again with all the pitfalls and problems of the more recent versions of MS Word.

Program was easy to install, easy to navigate and use, opened the files it was supposed to the way it was supposed to and can be accessorized for some great options, like export to html (which I haven't tried yet) and spell checker. Perfect for writing smaller documents, quick and easy. AND FREE! You can't go wrong with that.
