Editors’ Review
Cookie Stumbler allows you to clear your browsers and other apps of unwanted cookies, quickly and easily. With frequently updated cookie definitions, a deep scanning tool, and the ability to show you where each cookie is located, what data it contains, and how it interacts with your personal data, this is a must-have tool for anyone concerned about Internet security.
Downloading Cookie Stumbler is quick and it takes only a few seconds to install. You can then open it and immediately start scanning your computer for cookies. You'll likely need to update the software shortly after installing because it requires new definitions, but this process was fast, too. The newest version ran smoothly and without issue on our 10.9 Mavericks MacBook Pro and the scanning and cookie deletion process were near instantaneous. Combined with global tracking and a rather useful ability to see where cookies tend to show up on other devices, this is a powerful tool for anyone who is concerned about privacy or has no idea what third parties are tracking on their computers.
Out of the box, Cookie Stumbler is a 14-day trial so you can clear your computer, remove cookies, and see just how much data is being gathered, but you will need to spend $20 to keep the software after two weeks. For those without any privacy protection software, however, it is worth the upgrade. The interface is very intuitive and the app runs fast and without bogging down your machine.
