Comic Book Creator is an admirable attempt to make comic-book making accessible to the artistically disinclined. Loaded with a wide array of page and panel layouts, but lacking in drawing tools, CBC is aimed at those who already have their story and art ready to load, or for those who don't mind investing in the publisher's clipart packages.

The program has some strengths, the greatest being the variety of built-in word balloons and fonts you can choose from. Especially helpful is the ability to reposition the word balloon stems, to maximize their use in the panel and point exactly where you want them to go. Imported art is easy to resize, but there's no way to vectorize imports, so unless it's close to the size you want it to be, pixelation will be a concern. There's a convenient link to Hypercomics.com so that you can easily publish your comic on the Web.

However, the program is enormous with a download larger than 150 MB. The lack of in-app art tools was frustrating, and although you can load your own art or screenshots, it must be done through the left-nav Resource Browser and then drag-and-dropping into the page--not the most intuitive method. There are also options to include animations and sounds in your digital comic, but they were inaccessible in the trial, unless you provide your own.

The company went out of business in 2008, so you are merely downloading and installing a 14 day trial with many restrictions. You will never be able to activate it and use beyond the trial period, unless you find a crack for it. Not worth the virus. Better options out there now.

The editing portion of the software is fine. Load template, add backgrounds, clip art, word balloons, and you have a comic book. There's a very nice system of vector graphic word balloons. Some very nice comic book fonts are included.
Cons
The templates are somewhat restrictive, and they're about an inch too big when compared to 'real' comic books. Only spoken word balloons have vector graphics, all others are clip art which can look strange when resized. The point where the program falls down flat is when you want to save the book in a redistributable format. The program will not recognize the PDF writer it comes bundled with, you'll need to print it to a different PDF writer. The program also offers JPEG, HTML and other useful formats, but it cannot save to them either. Not recommended for anyone looking for a professional tool, or anyone easily frustrated by software installation hassle.

I needed something to do mock comic pages with my own pictures, and it's much fun to play with. <p>Loading your own pictures into it is easy. Word balloons, text blocks and fancy comic fonts are all included, and saves a lot of time doing something like this versus using an image program and creatingg from scratch. Comes with Adobe software for PDF viewing, and a small program for screen capture (for games).
Cons
The software has updated since it's been here. The trial version is good for 30 days, but you can't save anything until you purchase. The price is also a little more than advertised, more than I was hoping to spend, but nothing outrageous. Ability to edit your personal photos inside the program is limited - you'd need some image software beforehand to do major changes.

Pros
It's simple enough for even a toddler. The zoom is great, once you get used to it. I found no crashes, pop-ups, unobvious errors after I downloaded the programme. You can use ANY of your images, even if it's not about games, and the texts are really cool. It's also about VIDEO GAMES - something I have been looking forward to in ages.
Cons
You don't simply get your images in one - you need to use folders. The loading time is quite long for something like this. It wasn't like I have been expecting. Some images are a bit weird after getting them, and they are zoomed very deep. It gets repetieve after a while, too.
