Key Details of Citymapper - Transit Navigation
Editors' Review
Drawing on real-time data, Citymapper helps chart your fastest public transit trip.
Pros
Set your best route: Citymapper pulls data from a broad range of mapping, mass-transit, and ride-sharing sources to show the best transportation choices based on real-time data. The app displays a live estimate of travel time -- including time spent walking -- which it updates every minute. The yellow radio-signal icon next to a time indicates it is being updated in real time.
Share your trip with friends: After you set a route, share your trip with friends, who can watch your travels in real time and monitor your estimated arrival time.
Live bus routes: While waiting for a bus, you can watch its approach in real time on the map and view upcoming route schedules.
Offline planning: If you are traveling off the grid, you can save a single trip or an entire itinerary so that you can view it offline.
Local information: Citymapper pulls information from services, such as Yelp, to offer crowd-sourced location cards that include business hours, ratings, and contact information.
Positive reinforcement: At the end of a public-transit trip, the app displays a card that estimates how many calories you burned, how many trees you saved, and how much money you pocketed by taking public transit instead of driving.

Cons
Not an active participant: After you start your journey, the app isn't as participatory in your trip as, say, Google Maps is. You can swipe between screens to see the legs of your journey but not much more.
Lacks deep city coverage: The app offers travel assistance for 40 or so international cities, including San Francisco, London, Moscow, Hong Kong, and Sydney. While Citymapper is looking to add more cities, its city coverage is not deep.
Bottom Line
Citymapper pulls from a variety of mapping, transit, and crowd-sourced services to produce usable public-transit guidance. While other apps, such as Google Maps, can offer similar help, Citymapper's singular focus on public transit makes it a better choice for those who commute by bus or train.
What's new in version 11.19.1
Today's update brings you better bus travel times with TRAFFIC.
Buses are great, but sometimes you feel like you're taking a gamble, not knowing whether you're going to get stuck in traffic.
Gobot to the rescue.
Gobot's already watching every bus in the city to give you live times, so it knows how long it's taking buses to get through each stretch of road. Gobot sees, Gobot remembers, Gobot passes the savings on to you.
Starting in London, NYC, and Moscow (with more cities to come), whenever you plan a bus trip, you'll get even more accurate travel times, based on our latest information. You'll also see any slower areas highlighted on the map of your trip, so you'll know when you'll be feeling that finger tapping, looking out the window, come ON already impatience.
We also made a bunch of small improvements around the app, because we're never satisfied. If you think you've found them all, get in touch, you should come work with us!
