Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions. Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. All travel in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.
Cannot get this thing to delete from hard drive. Force delete from trash does not work either. Never could get it to launch in the first place.
Summary
Gives great perspective.

Editing the cfg file as described in the readme fixed it.

The program chokes after a few flies through, but it is spectacular up to then. I'll give it a 5th star when it can get me back from Polaris to Earth.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is absolutely incredible. I am so grateful to the developer who did this, I can't thank you enough. My only problem is that I can't get Celestia to hold permissions to allow my students to open it in a managed account under Panther. System Preferences-Accounts-Limitations-Some Limits
Once that is fixed, this is going to be on every workstation in our school. Thanks again for an awesome application
Starry Night has had this \"fly through\" for years.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
In the interest of honesty, Starry Night from Space.com, has has this deep space "fly through" for years! Even the basic beginner version of Starry Night ($29.95) that ran on OS 9 had this in a copy I bought over three years ago, and a lot more "off Earth" planetarium features not in this app.
Glad to see this sophistication in a free Planetarium app, but lets be honest in the description declaration.
Very nice!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I haven't had so much fun playing with software in a very long time. Sure, it lacks some features, but even at this alpha stage you can spend hours and hours exploring its possibilities. Amazing graphics, amazing educational value... an amazing adventure. Keep up the great work and if you can, allow users to customize their keyboard controls. My keyboard for example doesn't have an "End" key, although Keyboard Maestro solved the problem (as usual). Also, thanks for making it freeware!!
