Carracho Server turns almost any Internet-connected Macintosh into a powerful chat, news, and file server based on the Carracho protocol. The small memory requirement (less than 2MB) and the multitasking abilities allow you to run a Carracho server in the background while working with your regular applications. Features of this server include chatting, news, and file distribution.

using PR version or Beta's is still a riskingâ?¦
I did not longer use the OSX version, the 1Obr8 server is very stable (crashed perhaps 2 times in year). so, what is the problem ? this soft is really usefull (I use it every day) and perfectly stableâ?¦ best wishes to the devâ?¦ which job is helpful and freeâ?¦

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

I've used Carracho for some time now. It's the best way I've found to create a server where two-way (adminstrator-users) interaction is important. KDX looks and feels like a Windoze app-- that alone keeps it off my computer.

I love having all administrative functions in the client. I can run my web/database/file/Carracho server box headless, never needing to interact with it directly. Even if your server is also your main desktop, it makes changing settings while on the road much easier.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
All right, I'm going to break up the love fest here. I really want to like the Carracho server. It reminds me of the old days with Hotline, before the PCs invaded. But this app is BUGGY! The server app is totally counterintuitive in that the whole thing is set up through the client. And not the OS X client, mind you. If you don't have another computer running OS 9, you can't even set up your own OS X server! And the description of the server you save keeps deleting itself due to a bug. And this is just the half of it. The Carracho client is all right, but the server needs a lot of work. Not nearly as good as a Hotline Server in its heyday.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have this thing someone uploaded to me called Enchilida. Claims to be a Cocoa Carracho! Weird, it launches and everything, I'll investigate more in a bit. Carracho needs a 2.0 bump.
needs:
1. AIM like chat with multimedia support and html support. Or at least each private chat has its own window, that message box thing is annoying when it fills up.
2. On the server side, icons next to users so we Admins can see what users are uploading/downloading
3. Folders take FOREVER to load and same with Agreement and messages. Me and my users are on FAST (read: college aka faster than even a T3) internet lines. Transfer speeds are blazing, getting almost a megaBYTE a second so this must be a software bug. Carracho developers HELLO please respond to me. You do NOT respond to suggestions and emails.
4. CarraFix. Perhaps this should be built in. In User Info Admins could tweak the amount of bandwith they get.
5. Uploading and downloading at the same time slows Carracho server down. This is partly because I am on half-duplix (can't send and receive at same time) Ethernet, but I think it is also a software bug.
6. It's stable! Enough of the bug squishing let's see new features!
Now, this said this is FREEWARE. THANK YOU CARRACHO for the free software which is the only software U. RI doesn't cap! That said please give us an update or at least tell us if you're not going to ever update it. The News on your site is not very informational.
