Pros
Works great: CamScanner helps you snap high-quality photos of text and images in any format and then uses an accurate auto-cropper to remove the background, keeping only the paper, receipt, etc. in your scan, before offering you several enhancement modes. The result is a great scan that you can keep on your device, store in the cloud, share within the app for others to comment on, or send via email.
Premium value: The paid version removes ads and watermarks, lets you edit OCR files and export them as text, and offers you a higher quality scan, which is a lot for just $1.99. Alternatively, you can go for a premium account subscription for even more features and online storage space for $4.99.
Ready to hand: With this app it's really easy to scan something quickly, as well as to organize your library of scanned files and tag them, or invite others to comment on them. The smooth, lightweight interface, and the intuitive long-tap on any file to view options make this a great app.
Cons
Ads get in the way: The free version features a banner at the bottom of the screen that takes up precious screen space on a smartphone and that you'll inevitably tap every now and then when wishing to perform a scan.
Limited OCR feature: To use the optical character recognition feature, you must download a plug-in from outside Google Play (security vulnerability), and even then you can't use it for all languages. Also, text recognition isn't 100 percent accurate for handwriting.
Bottom Line
If you need a scanning app for your smartphone, you won't find a better one than CamScanner. It's an intuitive, effective, and portable tool that can replace your old desktop scanner. To fully enjoy all of its features and get rid of the ads, we recommend you buy at least the paid version.
