Flash cards are learning devices that have been around since time immemorial. Cabra from Hathix is a free program that gives a new spin on this long-standing educational tool. If you have ever tried making flash cards the old-fashioned way, then you'll appreciate the relative ease of Cabra.

The tool is free. It has a clean, simple interface that is very easy to figure out. Cabra allows you to add images or highlight specific parts of the flash cards you are creating. You can choose from more than a dozen colorful themes. The software also lets you download flash cards made by other people. You can view the flash cards online or print them with ease.

We like this modern update of the schoolroom staple. It lets anyone create flash cards that look good and are actually pretty fun to make. Who says the learning process has to be dull and boring? A minor drawback to the software is that it leaves folders on your system when it's uninstalled.

Simple, powerful, free!

Pros
What can I say? Cabra packs remarkable power and flexibility that's absent in most other flashcard programs, but it comes with the joyful simplicity of old-school paper flashcards. Making flashcards becomes fast and easy, and studying them is a breeze with the algorithm Cabra uses. Suffice to say, my grades have shot up.
Cons
Tutorial videos, maybe. Besides that I'm stumped.
Summary
One of my friends mentioned Cabra once and I decided to check it out, seeing as I could really do with some studying help. I tried it out and it worked amazingly. My grades went up, sure, but so did my free time. Thank you, Cabra! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone - in fact I've recommended it to most of my friends. It's really that awesome.

I haven't actually used the program so I can't say how good the program itself is, but from the code it looks great. I love how it's open source so I can use the code for my own projects... it's so well-written and there are so many useful bits of code. THANK YOU.

If you're a developer check out the source code, it's awesome. If you're a user it's probably not a bad piece of software.

Pros
Previous versions were a bit buggy, but the new 0.6.2 works like a charm... I've used the new version for a while and made hundreds of flashcards and encountered no problems whatsoever.

Still under development so it's not perfect.
