Bookpedia for Mac allows you to organize and manage a large book collection more easily. Despite its basic and slightly dated interface, this iTunes-like app is easy to use and comes with fast book searching features. Its tracking features for borrowed books and handy wish list are two nice extra features you'll like. The app is not free, but you can test it and see if you like it before purchasing.

Bookpedia for Mac lets you add new books to the library, manually, or by searching for them online using keywords. The search completes quickly and features a lot of metadata, which can help you sort out your library more easily. The app runs smoothly, and when you select a particular book, cover art and additional information are displayed quickly without any lag, bugs, or glitches. In addition to cataloging features, this app also comes with a sub-menu that lists borrowed books, including when they are due, a helpful feature if you use the library often. We also liked the book wish list, which is not only convenient, but also easy to use.

Bookpedia for Mac lives up to its promise. If you have a large collection of owned and borrowed books, this app will help you organize them more thoroughly, by providing extensive metadata about each title. The interface could do with some improvements, but it's OK as it is. Love books? You'll like this app.

Efficient and Dependable

Bookpedia is a handy piece of software that organizes your library efficiently with good search engines, import capability and a reasonable price ($18USD). Their rapid and courteous customer service is an added bonus. When the library software I was using on my iMac was no longer being updated as OS 10 moved to maverick I was severely hampered and faced with the possibility of re-entering my data since sample versions of other book inventory software were unable to import my old extensive data. Voila along came Bookpedia, which filled the bill saving me endless days of tedious input and cost.

It's free, upgraded often, iSight integration, web book marketplace integration, flexibility/custom libraries, FAST, the "GEE" factor when friend see it

Pros
This product really does what it says it will do! Books can be sorted, in any way you might want. A great way of keeping track of what you have.
Cons
My one real gripe is that I cannot get it to transfer the info to my iPod Touch or iPhone. This really needs to be dealt with....!

Pros
It finds everything for me including edition and number of pages. I know where my books are and which books I'm looking for. I know who borrowed my books and when.
Cons
Out of print books take a lot of time although I"m sure that they are in the Library of Congress

We have all the issues associated with a Library operation in micro form. This software package and the support we get from the developer meets all our needs. As it is a Mac program teaching our volunteer staff how to use it is easy. Bottom line here is for anyone needing to run a small library operation like a Church library this will fit the bill. I am in Ontario Canada. Do a google search, it make take a couple of tries but I can be found if you want to talk.

I tried both DL and Bookpedia, and found that Bookpedia was far more reliable and flexible for my use. I recently [April 2009] received a copy of the latest DL as part of the latest Machesit and found that I was still better served by Bookpedia. As a humanities professor, I like being able to use smart folders and the columns to organize and tag my books. Additionally, the ability to export titles for bibliographic use is outstanding. I have also made good use of its ipod syncing capabilities--which have only been made better with pocketpedia which allows you to sync to iphones and ipod touch. [Something promised in future versions of DL.] This lets me keep track of everything I already have and everything I am looking for and helps me to comparison shop with updated prices for new and used items. I could really go on and on about the terrific customer service as well. But shouldn't you just go and see for yourself? You won't be disappointed!

It works great with my Canon Alura 100 attached via Firewire but even faster if I enter the ISBN # from the keypad. The search feature is extremely fast and checks an array (cascade) of sources including the Library of Congress. Being able to "correct" entries to fit our needs is perfect! Now our 1000's of books are once again at our fingertips. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Shouldn't have waited for so long: This is a brilliant application, with lots of different options/sources for information import and huge variety of export templates. Neat!

The new version - a pretty major upgrade, adding useful and sophisticated functionality - is actually free to existing users. On installation it seamlessly updates your data - then continues to provide the best set of features, is the most reliable (never any crashes etc. Never), and looks the most elegant of all such software. Only complaint - it's worth over twice as much! Thanks, Bruji!
