  The company I work for has been developing sites in Bitrix for around 12months. Never before has software made me feel suicidal - Bitrix achieves this with ease. Site configuration is utterly non-intuitive - the menus are a non-intuitive maze of logic-defying associations. If you want to start developing software interfaces for a living, install Bitrix for the perfect example of what not to do. Even basic tasks are buried in the most illogical of places. Support is available but mostly consists of 'RTFM' or the expectation that you have a level of coding knowledge literally high enough to enable you to actually develop your own CMS in the first place. There is no community so you are literally on your own. If you don't like the way It's huge - 50,000+ files huge, with a ridiculously high number of nested directories (want to change 'add to cart' text?; that will be bitrix/components/bitrix/catalog/templates/.default/bitrix/catalog.top/.default/lang/en/template.php).<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Sep 12, 2012<p/>Additionally there is no CVS - God help you if there are two people working on coding different parts of the site at the same time. You constantly over-write each other's changes even when one of you is working on a stylesheet and the other on a template. No drafts are saved and you can't see previous revisions - awful stuff.

  I stared using bitrix a few weeks ago and so far its been great. Open Source may have more small add-ons and other dumb stuff most businesses don't need, but bitrix's product is solidly built. No browser issues, strange layouts or random errors to debug. The higher priced versions have a pretty good e-commerce module to.
