Free, convenient, and easy to use
gmboy902
Pros
- Free, yet efficient software
- Lets you study verses at any time on a whim, and on vacations or trips
- Comes with a free KJV digital copy of the Bible
- Can be upgraded with extra versions, devotionals, etc.
- Built in reading planner
Cons
- It only comes with the King James Version, while many people prefer NIV, which costs about 30 bucks from the online store
- The planner is useful, but not very flexible. You can't specify specific books or days to study.
Summary
It's great freeware for technologically-inclined believers such as myself, as it's easier to read and search through than a book, plus it lets you multi-task easier. The study planner is a handy tool to track how much you read, but it isn't very flexible - especially, it won't let you specify what you want to read.
Still, it's free and easy to use and navigate. For a free product, this is incredibly useful.
Excellent study program for experienced users...
upsideofdownhill
Pros
Comes with all kinds of study materials that make putting together a well-planned Bible study or small group fairly simple. If you need extra material, the program is expandable. Add books and other study materials for, usually, reasonable prices.
Cons
For the user who is inexperienced in this kind of software, it can be slightly overwhelming, at first glance, but if you just take some time to explore the software and learn where everything is and what it does, you'll be a pro in no time.
Summary
Bottom line: If you're looking for worthwhile software at an affordable price (free), look no further.

willbmi
Pros
it has many features you wont find in e-sword and many add in's which cost $$$
I would use it if my resources were compatible, but i have lots of resources in other free bible programs, so I would be doubling up.
Cons
but..... I have more resources in other free bible programs, so I would not use it very much.
Summary
very good - pity free programs have the free modules which make this software work like crippleware.
With much patience its ok
vernonguillory
Pros
It is the King James
Cons
You have to download the program in a difficult way and it gave me lots of error messages and I am not using it for the time being and will likely uninstall and it needs to be easier to download soon for me.

This box is not needed, I tell the bottom lines before they give me the room.

Updated on Mar 29, 2010
Hard to download and impossible to use, I want a Bible program which is easy to download and use, this does not do that.
This is the best!!!
geoffvernon
Pros
I thought this product was very easy to use and it was very simple to find things I needed
Cons
Allot of the stuff I needed wasn't free.
Summary
I thought tis product was amazing and easy to use I liked it allot. I am the children's pastor an my church and I am only 14 years old so I figured I didn't need anything expensive so a ran into this. At first I thought there was a catch but there wasn't so I downloaded it on one computer and now all four computers in my house have bible explorer 4!!! I would highly recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to spend money. I compared this to my pastor's 1,200 doller product and this kept up with that!! The only problem I didn't like was the discussion group thingy, so of the things said were demeaning. But don't worry about it you don't have to use the discussion group if you don't want to you don't even look at it if you don't want. So I would get this product if you want something powerful, affective and free.
Didn't Work Right
pdun459
Pros
I can't really say because it either didn't download correctly or didn't work once I got it downloaded.
Cons
Download page says initial download is 6 MB but was at 8 MB when I gave up. Download window doesn't say how much time is left, just says "unknown."
Summary
I can only speak from my own experience with this product which wasn't good at all (I have Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit).
The official Bible Explorer download page says the initial download is 6 MB but I let it run to 8 MB, at which point I paused. When I restarted it made me start all over again so I gave up. The downloader also doesn't tell you how much time is left either, it just says "unknown."
I finally went to an independent site and got the program downloaded but when I tried to run it, it said something about necessary fonts couldn't be installed until restart. So I restarted but got the same message. I completely uninstalled everything and tried again but got the same message.
That's when I tried e-Sword. Everything has worked like a charm so far from start to finish. From what I can tell, this program and e-Sword are basically the same. There may be some differences in the features but the free add-on bibles and books are about the same. To me, e-Sword is very clean and simple but also powerful. I can't imagine it needing any other features than what it already has.
Bible Explorer 4 may work for you, but all I can say is e-Sword worked A LOT better for me.
THE BEST FREE BIBLE PROGRAM THAT I KNOW OF
onovell
Pros
A truly AMAZING search program. Extremely easy to learn to use if you watch the included Tutorial Vidio. MUCH MORE user friendly than any of the previous Bible software programs that I have tried. This Free program will encourage you to upgrade.
Cons
This Free version has limited personalization option. But if you upgrade and purchase their Bible Explorer Library or their advanced verion of WORDsearch 7 you will have more options and an AMAZING Christian Library.
Summary
YES this is Free Version to give you an idea of what their larger versions are capable of. STILL, I am amazed at all of this Free Version has. PLUS they frequently add books to their Free Download page. I have eagerly upgraded to WORDsearch 7 which I am extremely happy with. It looks almost identical to this Free Bible Explorer 4 with more features and NUMEROUS more open books. They run their add-on books on sale frequently, and I have added to my library at bargain prices several times. I have purchased in the past Quick Verse, PC Study Bible, LOGOS Bible Library, Swift Bible Software, and tried some of the other free programs online, and NONE of them is as user friendly as Bible Explorer 4. I have to give this 5 stars, because it quickly and easily finds the verse you are looking for, even if you do not want to purchase any add-ons.
