For users who are frustrated by being outbid in the last seconds of an eBay auction, BayGenie makes you that last-second bidder. This unique software lets you automatically bid on a product as the clock winds down, no matter where you are.

This freeware program has a very basic interface that shouldn't take long for any user to understand. The bulk of the screen is dominated by a two column check list detailing a user's options with the free version of the software and with the paid version. However, the bottom right corner of the program will be what interests most users. Here you can set up your future eBay victories by entering your eBay ID, password, the item number you wish to bid on, your maximum bid, and how many seconds before the close of the auction you would like your bid to be placed. From here, a screen outlines your choices and asks you to be positive this is your choice.

This program is simple to use, but its major complaints come from its limitations without purchasing the Pro version of BayGenie. The biggest drawback is that users can only bid on one item at a time with the free version. However, if you don't bid on multiple items at once, this is a great download.

Pros
(1) If you want the free version, download the desktop version for Windows from BayGenie's site. They no longer make a separate free app - the free version is the same as the paid version. The only limitation is that you can have 1 snipe running at time. (2) When I ran into a issue with the app not completing a snipe, I received an email response from BayGenie's support within 24hirs pointing to a new build that was updated to work around eBay's blocks. That's pretty good support for the free version of the app.
Cons
Either CNET or BayGenie needs to pull this old version from download.com and replace it with the proper one (that is available for free at Baygenie's site).
Summary
BayGenie's eBay sniping app is easy to use and they allow you to try it out for free (just has a limit of 1 snipe at a time). Make sure to pull down the version from the BayGenie site (a much older version is posted on Download.com)

I've actually used BayGenie for several years but with the latest version Sniper 4 I've been totally wasting my time with it. It does no good to find that special deal on eBay only to have BG not submit your bid. This has happened to me on the last 5 auctions I've done. I've used the program long enough to know how it works. It's simply not submitting the bids and then listing the error as "cause unknown". Since there's no way to contact BG I have no way of finding out if they have a fix for this (yes, I'm updated to the latest version). After years of using BayGenie it's time to find something else.

Doesn't bid on time. Doesn't update the status of items you want to snipe. Technical support is NON-EXISTENT even if you have been paying for the product for 5 or 6 years.
Summary
I've been a paying, licensed user of BayGenie for many years. It used to work well, but not so much any more. With the latest version I find that it doesn't update the status of items you're bidding on and it nearly always puts in your bid after the auction has already expired. Its error trapping and handling are bad, bad, bad! It's a real shame to see a once great program turn into a worthless piece of garbage - and even worse a piece of garbage that you've PAID FOR and you still can't get any technical support.

Downloads conduit searchbar and takes over your browser and heaven knows what else this can do.
Summary
I downloaded this in the hope of improving my ebay chances. However, after installing this, I found my browser homepage opening to a conduit search window instead of my email as normal and the toolbar changed in size and resolution. When I tried signing into my email account again, I found I could not access it using my normal account information (email and password) and I was being asked what email I had that could have security information sent to to access my account. Thinking this was coming from Microsoft (Hotmail), I entered another email address. I was net with the message this was not a recognized account and asked for another. Now the alarm bells started going off in my head and I immediately removed BayGenie and all the Conduit files I could find and cleaned up as best as I could with all my anti-spyware malware programs. Now my toolbar is back to normal and my browser, once again opens to my email account as before. I just hope I got everything and I'm not compromised any further or experience any more grief from this.

It places your bids on a non-US eBay site and you will not qualify for your eBay bucks due to this. I lost almost $40 this month due to this!

Snipes can be set up to 1 second before the auction ends. Priced competitively.
Cons
Now that BayGenie has established a larger following, addressing issues or questions no longer seems to be a priority (POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE). Been with BayGenie since their beta days and LOVED everything up until a few weeks ago. Too many issues that should be an easy fix on the developer end. Not sure if they just dont care anymore or what?

I put in a bid on ebay, figured it would keep the bid active, closed the bygenie box window - and guess what: NO BID WAS MADE.

About 30% of the time I get a successful bid in.

But mostly ebay bid history will show that I have been out bid by someone with a lower max and my user name does not appear at all in the bidding history.
Summary
You stand a better chance at sitting at the "place bid" button on your own. Most of my bids never show up on bidding history of the sold item.

absolute rubbish when trying to install I got error after error, didn't even get to try using it,thought maybe it was a corrupt download so downloaded again from cnet, same thing, there must have been about 15 error messages, try something else, but not this
