• Good Backup App, but...

 Jeff8567April 15, 2010

 Pros

It does what it's supposed to and allows you to backup what you want.

 Cons

It leaves little 1k files all over your hard drive.

 Summary

Does what it's supposed to do, but causes annoying extra files.

• Consistently backs up to DVD-Rs, simple, resource lite, good for small business.

 Pros

I ran into a situation at a small business that wanted an unattended weekly backup of a share drive on a simple winXp network. Cost was a consideration and they did not want off-site network storage. So I set up Backup to DVD/CD to burn the approx. 1.2GB to a DVD every week. The files are just shared spreadsheets and docs, which only reached 1.2GB after 5 years, so exceeding the storage limit of a DVD-R was not a near term problem.
In conclusion, works great and easily automated with win task scheduler.
All they have to do is replace the DVD that pops out every week, and an employee takes it home for some level of off-site data security.
Good, easy solution for a small business on a budget,
and no IT staff to speak of.
Works fine with Pioneer DVR-1910LS

 Cons

Burned some coasters at 16X and 12X, but that could simply be related to cheap media. Gets consistent burns at 10X. Takes over 20 minutes for 1.2GB at 10X, but just set it up to run after business hours.

• Nice features

 Pros

Good folder selection tools. Uses multiple discs when necessary, without having to know ahead of time if multiple discs will be needed. Selective compression based on file size is quite innovative - since you can't open a compressed file directly in Windows Explorer, it's nice that it only compresses files big enough to make a difference in the size of the backup. Love the option to verify an old backup - don't know why other programs don't do this.

• Easy to use

 Pros

I tried several backup programs, but this is the only one that really made sense to me as soon as I started it. It was easy to use, and let me back up what I wanted very easily. It actually has more features than I need right now, like incremental backups, but they don't get in the way of making a simple backup.

• Great idea

 Pros

The way backup plans work in this software is a great idea, because they don't get broken if you move or rename a folder. And the software actually works as advertised!

• Great because I don't have to think about it

 Pros

This program makes it very easy to back up exactly what I want. Easy to understand, easy to find the folders and files you want, easy to incremental or differential backups, easy to do unattended backups, easy to verify your backup is good.
