  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />We have been experiencing problems with Backup Platinum connecting to our server for nightly backups. We email technical support several times, received a response or two in the beginning, but now all communication with the company has stopped for some inexplicable reason. We have since sent several emails which have gone completely ignored. The product works fine to an external hard drive, a second hard drive, to a folder on one hard drive, but it does not work properly to a server. Further, technical support seems to be absent, which is disappointing for a piece of software that costs $69.

  Easy backups to FTP or other devices. <p> <p>Good encryption. <p> <p>Good file inclusion/exclusion. <p> <p>Can run as a service. <p> <p>Great versionings of files. <p> <p>The best GUI of all the backups. <p> <p>The best part is the easy way to see what files have been backed up, changed, or see errors.

  Cons

  Wish it had the ability to backup open files, it simply will skip them. <p> <p>Differential backup would be a nice feature.

  Pros

  After reviewing a dozen backup programs to recommend for my clients, I came accross this one. It is simple, straightforward and it has robust tools. The scheduling is smart, it has built in compression, encryption, LAN, FTP, DVD burning...everything you need in a good app. There are some smart features as well, like logging in and verifying ftp credentials on the go to be sure that they work. <p> <p>The support may be less robust, but you shouldn't need it as there isn't much to decipher. I have spent hours on the phone with the 'great' tech support of Dantz Retrospect only to get nowhere. This is a sure solution for someone who wants a backup app that does just what it is supposed to.

  The overall appearance seems straight forward. The "contents" in Help section require considerable thought, lacking clarity and detail. What starts out to be a good and reasonable product ultimately let the user down when 'Product Support' fails to respond in a timely manner. How unfortunate! More work is needed on this product to really make it a Class A Backup System for the money spent.

  Summary

  This is an excellent, easy to use backup utility. If you hava a backup device or second hard drive, you'll never have to worry about loosing data. You can eaisly schedule backups to run as often as you want, and backups can be saved "as is" (mirrored) or encrypted.
