Can't convert any but the sample .avi file

Pros
I like the concept 'idea.' small. works well with the sample file included.
Cons
This program will not load ANY .avi file i fed it, no matter how small; always gives the same error for frame rate when I try. Can ONLY load the sample lizard.avi file that's included. No help or documentation.
Summary
The program doesn't seem to work, which is a real bummer, because it's exactly what i was looking for :(
