For those who like their customization in-house, the Avant Browser's latest update might appeal to you. Built on an IE-rendering engine, Avant takes off in a different direction--IE if it were being produced by a small firm instead of Microsoft.

The browser is sufficiently fast, preloaded with two dozen similar skins as well as tabbed browsing and modular toolbars that let you move around and hide the Status bar, Toolbar, Search window, and navigation controls. The Menu bar, though, is counterintuitively pinned to the upper-right corner, and icons for proprietary functions, such as an in-page search term highlighting toggle, aren't instantly comprehensible.

Avant can save personalized data online, making bookmarks and form content accessible from any machine. Around the same size as Firefox, Avant includes many features that are available to Firefox users only through plug-ins--such as automatic form fillers. The Full Screen view autohides all menu bars, a nice touch, but certain plug-ins--notably Flash--didn't work on Windows Vista.

Avant is a good browser with some nice built-in features and interface-customization options, but the lack of extensibility and Vista problems don't help. We recommend it to users who want a Microsoft-based engine but think that Internet Explorer 7 is a pain.

- It's slow - Its graphics seem to have travelled through a wormhole directly from the 90s. - After uninstalling (I only used it for 3 minutes) it has left spamware on my computer. I'm looking up how to get rid of it now. My other browsers keep being asked for some "unknown program" to change homepage to search.yahoo.com . It is fast and fairly easy to customize.
Cons
When checking my log in information in Facebook, it registers as IE (Internet Explorer). This browser, even with pop-up blocker, and AD Blocker activated, I get more adware trackers than I did with Opera. The fact is, I got really tired of the browser freezing up on me, so I deleted it.
Summary
If you're an IE user and want something easier to manage than IE, this will be good for you. If you're in need of something reliable and with better security, keep searching.

Constant IE script errors just by going to the Facebook login screen for example. Before I did ANYTHING. Hard to figure out where the internet options were, and at one point it locked up and I to call up task manager to close the dang thing.

First of all if I had realized that this piece of trash uses the Internet Explorer engine renderer I would have NEVER downloaded it. It said in the description that you could right click and choose Firefox renderer or Chrome. Neither one of those were listed only I.E. I NEVER liked I.E. it's the WORST most unstable browser I've ever tried to use. So obviously then since Avant only uses I.E.'s engine this browser was useless to me. I can't even use Internet Explorer btw, without some huge problems going on. I don't understand how over 2,000 users rated this 5 stars, I don't get it.

I've no idea how good this is because I immediately uninstalled it. Reason? It secretly downloaded and installed a program (I think it was called PC cleaner pro) without my permission. The program had acrtuallt started scanning my computer before I knew what was happening. (Also look out for the small print when installing - it tries to make Yahoo your default search engine etc unless you untick the box.)

I admit I am a online video hog. I can watch one video while downloading two others and I had firefox and chrome freeze up on me alot. Tried Avant and no issues.

Tried installing 2 time. Both times install 2 unwanted programs - Reimage & driver support.Both had to be removed manually. Worst of all it tried to onstall 2 trojans witch my AVG antivius stopped cold.(the free version I might add) Thank you AVG

No additional add-ons available . When on youtube had problems going from full screen to minimized it would hang most the time.

Pros
Loads fast, downloads faster. I've been using it for almost 2 years and have yet to blow it up. Love the rendering options which is very helpful for working remote. More options than found in most browsers along with the ability to use IE rendering (for those sites that don't recognize it). Has IE beat hands down in my opinion. IE could learn from these programmers.

Too many sites don't recognize it unless you run in rendering mode from the start.
Summary
Stable and great option for IE. Even beats FireFox for options available. I would consider paying for it if it was required. It's my default browser over the several others I have available to me. Keep up the great work!
