  Tried alongside 3 comparable programs, only 1 of which having a lower sticker price, I strongly felt AutoRun Pro out-performed them all. The integrated sound & video players are a real joy; attach .wav, MIDI, and even .mp3 files to your menu or buttons and they simply play, without the host's Media Player or any other application popping up to handle them. Many people are familiar with simple action strings utilized to cause your system to play a sound or open an application, but you'll never see Media Player or the likes open to run sound/imagery for a disc from Microsoft, HP or the likes, burying the interactive menu beneath it. I want to present a professional image, and especially in this day & age of constant new compromise in security, I dislike & am wary of anything which seems to task drives or use resources unnecessarily and certainly don't want to distribute a product possibly rousing apprehension with my clients as it would myself.; each of the more costly programs I tested opened resident applications for audio/video. <p> <p>Save & Test without burning to CD is a breeze, runs just like your finished product will look, and allows you to try out little tweaks one at a time to see what happens without toasting a stack of discs. NOTE: My 4-star rating comes after about 20 hours of actual use; the first 10-12 of which less than gratifying and occassionally near program deletion. A superb choice for the moderately PC literate, it's currently not what I'd recommend to anyone baffled by CTRL+ALT+DEL or lacking in patience; it does require some understanding by trial & error to discover it's simplicity & potential.

  Cons

  If you don't have some basics in HTML, start by opening the sample menus and examine the properties associated with each feature. Acquaint yourself with actions/consequences utilizing the wizards; watch how they translate your requests & you'll catch on. The HELP files are relevant to this software like a soap opera is to real life; a glorified outline of attributes that make you one of the "beautiful people," but you'll have to pay close attention to each & every episode to even begin to grasp the connection why she's 65 but forever looks 23 has something to do with that alien-abduction dream her mother has had for years. More of a "list of features", the Help files fail miserably in explanation of how to use them, so at first it's easy to underestimate AutoRun Pro's ability to create elaborate menus and operations equal to CD/DVD authoring tools costing 3 and 4 times as much, but it can. Like many comparable softwares, they sort of "skirt" mention to limitation of what level "in-house" imagery can actually be generated; some do provide enhanced image editing or offer bundled tools to registered users, but their pricing is not for the casual user. Generally the key to great results is providing the "foxy" backgrounds and imagery you can easily make yourself in programs bundled with your PC with a little practice. The CD/DVD authoring tool's real talents lie in versatility of it's digestion (does it only like .bmp's, or will it eat .gifs and JPEG's too), and it's range/limitations of feats it can perform with them. While this program could probably accept a serving of ".peas" and create ".art" with it, AutoRun Pro is it's own worst enemy by concealing how truly easy it is to live with; likely losing a substantial number of sales to competition not because they have a better product, but because they better show it off. AutoRun Pro shows you example of where you can go, but they forgot many of us don't live around here, and the trip's much faster when someone gives you a map.

• Easy to Use - Good Results

  So far I have loved what this program can do. The interface is very easy to understand, and the benefit of a wizard to get your autorun file started is worth it alone. 4.0 can create very nice autorun menus, complete with license acceptance, personalized icon insertion, wallpaper, and buttons for readmes, running programs (setups or installations), browse, etc. I had no problems creating a very nice looking autorun menu complete with my own artwork splash screen and custom menu.

  Cons

  I don't like the dock style toolbars. I would much prefer a program with its own window, instead of three separate movable windows. Also, the demo version displays a message on your autorun CDs until you register - if it was completely fully functional without the message I would definately give it five stars.
