As basic audio converters come a dime a dozen these days and are often free, we have a hard time getting excited about one that lets you convert only five measly songs. Audio X Converter transforms your digital music files among the four most popular codecs: MP3, WAV, WMA, and OGG. The green-tinted interface is rather bland but at least is easy enough to understand. After browsing your PC for files, you can set the audio quality of your new tunes. If you're converting files to MP3s, the application will let you encode them in the space-concious VBR mode. We did notice a design flaw when perusing our OGG output options: the slider for setting audio quality has identical wording at both ends of the spectrum. Not only do we think the one-time, five-song conversion limit is stingy, we also find it ridiculous that the program won't even open after you've transformed your allotted tunes. Ultimately, those who need an audio-conversion utility can find a better option.
