  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Followed the directions specifying the Safe Boot and no applications running during the update. After the re-start (prompted by a dialogue at the end of the installation), I noticed that several files had been added to the trash. The 7000 ME card is in a 266-mhz Beige G3 (rev A) running OS 10.4.2 (enabled by XPostFacto 4.0b5). XPF 4.0b5 also has made it possible for the old Beige to do a Safe Boot, something that was not possible earlier.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Apple's DVD Player still displays not much other than flashing green artifacts with this update in OS X 10.4.2, using a Radeon 8500 on a Sawtooth G4. (This is a common issue with this vid card/Mac combination; search Apple Discussions for Radeon green for several threads about it.) Removing the file /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon8500VADriver.bundle and rebooting "fixes" the flashing, but at what cost? I wish someone (Apple? ATI?) would step up and fix this.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I tried the pivot briefly and it performs routine tasks like browsing and word processing fine. I emailed ATI with my problems as well and they told me to reinstall the software, do a lot of OS 9 related things although I am in OS X, and said to search their site for help. Nothing worked and I just emailed them back again. MacFixIt though did report on this problem awhile back. For me this problem never existed before using the same settings so it's something ATI did with the drivers or ROM. My problem goes away is I change the resolution or refresh rate, but not color depth. Until ATI fixes their mistake Radeon 8500 users beware.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I installed this and the ATI Displays 4.4 and it totally messed up my G4/500 with Radeon 8500 using TVOut. ATI tried to help fix, but then gave up and I have not hear from them since. I ended up backing this off my system and back to the original 126 firmware and ATI Displays 4.2.5. If you use TVout, beware. The biggest issue was that on waking from sleep the monitor output would start up but then after some messing about turn itself off (irregardles of whether the TV was powered up or not, or the ATI Displays was set to always scan for Monitors). Also not fixed is that on return from "full screen mode" in QT, VLC, MPlayer, iTunes Visualizer - the customer TVOut Screen size settings are overwritten by the factory defaults...

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Same problem here. After this update my monitors display flickering on small dark text, I first noticed it in Safari. It makes it somewhat difficult for me to work, a few Photoshop tools, menus, pallettes, exhibit this behavior as well. Larger text and that which is anti-aliased doesn't seem to be affected. I am running at 1600x1200 at 70hz, and 800x600 at 100hz.

That's annoying... why waste our time, ATI? BTW, I've been very please with the Sept update for the 8500 and the displays 4.4.. been working great... except, now on my 2nd monitor if the type is black and small (like Thoth, etc.).. little, flickering artifacts are showing up... this didn't happen before. Fortunately, it's only for certain small type &amp; it's not too big a deal. Res is at 1600x1200 65 Hz, Millions on this monitor BTW.. I'm too lazy to try other rez's, besides I want it at that fricken' res anyway. No biggie, but I hope it is fixed eventually. Mac2TV works great now, BTW.

This was not present with the Sept 2004 ROM Update, but was present previous to that update. I am using a 9000 Radeon Pro Mac Edition, OS 10.3.5, Princeton LCD-19D, Gigabit Ethernet Mac with 1.4ghz G4 (Sonnet). I'm going to reinstall previous ROM and wait for ATI to correct the problem. ATI -- FIX THE PROBLEM!!!
