Application Enhancer is a system which allows for 3rd party modules to modify and enhance the way applications behave and operate. Application Enhancers work on an application level, therefore they do not affect the stability of the underlying system. The technology behind Application Enhancer system has been in research and development for more than 4 years now, and many Unsanity haxies (including WindowShade X, FruitMenu, Silk and others) are now using it. The software development kit for developing modules is also available on the Application Enhancer home page.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I installed APE 2.5b, and immediately began experiencing crashes, instability, glitches, bugs, problems, annoyances, lesbian tendencies, insatiable thirst, missing socks, ennui, bedwetting, and in some cases death. Another fine mess you've gotten us into!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
If you don't like or need the Unsanity haxies, don't use them. Couldn't be simpler. But one person's bad experience doesn't invalidate all the good experiences so many others of us have had over the years. APE, FruitMenu and WindowShade now work in OS X 10.5.2 on my Mac Pro. For the fellow with problems, clearly he has issues most of us have not encountered. But since APE is easy to remove, it is highly improbable that it will do any permanent damage to your system. So it's simple to test for compatibility - no risk involved.
From time to time other applications or utilities will conflict with Application Enhancer. It they do, it's easy to exclude them in the APE pref pane. Any good hack will give you that option. Most such conflicts have been resolved over the years by Unsanity in cooperation with other developers. Unsanity has an excellent track record in this regard, a fact the haxie haters generally ignore. In my opinion, that's their loss and no skin off my nose.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Yes, APE patches system traps. It is a "hack". That's why its called a "Haxie". But if you want functionality that frankly, Apple left out, you need it.
Some of my favorite behaviors went out the window years ago with the advent of OS X, but it is so outstanding that we lived without them. Others, like window-shading and hierarchical menus have been beautifully reintroduced by Unsanity (and others).
The APE framework is the slick piece of software that makes it all work. I applaud Unsanity for not giving up.
I have been using this beta for a month without incident. I have been using APE for years. Its solid and written by a good team. Keep up the good work!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used Application Enhancers from Insanity for more years than I care to remember. I have enjoyed the added "functionality" and GUI appearances that WindowShade, Shapeshifter, FruitMenu and Xounds have added to my user experience. I have NEVER experienced a problems on any of my seven various Macs or on any OS up to an including 10.4.10. I deduce that people who eperience problems have an underlying issue in their set-up, which is unmasked when either and APE is installed or an OS update applied.
Thanks to Unsanity for their products and support

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
APE 2.0.3 on 10.4.9 causes the same problems I had with the previous version of APEâ??crashes, failed application launches and system freezes. At least I knew what caused it and things went back to normal after un-installation of APE 2.0.3.
Too bad Unsanity did not get this one rightâ?¦I miss their haxies, especially WindoShade.
Oh well, I shouldabandon all hope with Unsanity, yet I keep hoping and hoping.
