This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />As a straight ahead audio editor, Soundtrack Pro does excatly what I need and is the best sound editing software currently available for the Mac, in my opinion. I use it daily for multi-track recording and wave form editing and since it integrates both nicely I give it the highest rating. I may not have to use 50+ files like the video editors, but Soundtrack Pro has never failed me. And since I work strickly in a radio broadcasting environment it's the one to use. So until Adobe releases a verion of Audition for the Mac (doubtful), Soundtrack Pro will be my AUDIO editor of choice.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Soundtrack pro offers comprehensive editing and mixing to users of Final Cut. Too bad it's mostly useless. There are so many bugs in this software, that it is hard to comprehend any company having any self-respect to release such a piece of garbage. Sudden crashes, corrupt projects that won't open, and weird stutter/clock issues on playback. I have experienced every flaw that the previous review has listed, and then some. One day, hopefully, it will perform like it should. And then it will be great. But it's not great now. It's useless for anything that has more than 50 audio clips, and compared to how the same project performs in either Logic or Final Cut, there is no excuse. I am done wasting my time with this extremely disappointing application. And the new update hasn't changed much, as far as I can tell. It's still hogging twice as much CPU as other apps with the same playlist. FYI, I'm a huge Apple fan. Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro are how I make my living, and I love both of them. But Soundtrack Pro is not pro. It's beta. Boo.

Macintosh Computer with a single 500MHz or dual 450MHz or faster PowerPC G4 processor. Seems pretty clear to me. Im not sure who put you in charge of 15 iMac G3's, but that truly was an idot.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />If you have an earlier G4 (<450mhz), that isn't "supported", but change the processor min. in the plist file, and it'll work fine. I'm running it perfectly (and quickly) on a G4 400mhz - I have no idea why this machine isn't supported out of the box, it works great. Don't think this will work to go down to a G3 though, but for early G4 users, this works.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />So I just upgraded to Final Cut Pro 4 and I must say I can't stop playing with Soundtrack... it's absolutely amazing! It really is as simple as they make it sound to piece together different instruments and make a really good sounding piece of music. No, im not going to get a record contract but that's not the point. The point is it's really easy, sounds really good, it's kinda fun, and did I say it's easy? there are literally thousands of sampled sounds from the basic drums, pianos & guitars to the Didjeridoo and the Bagpipe. There are instruments in here I didn't know existed covering genres from blues to gamelan, orchestral to funk....AND they all sould really great. At first I thought Apple's price of $300 for this app was a bit high but now that I've seen it and worked with it I think it's a bargain. I can't wait for sites to pop up on the web with even more samples to download... it's amazing!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />i don't think this is something posed to compete directly with live, primarily because this isn't aimed at live performance. it's more like a parred down version of Logic. pretty cool though, but i don't know if it's worth that price when you can upgrade FCP for less and get it included...maybe for $100 less.

Although, I'm not sure about them labeling it as "Pro Audio" and I'd have preffered to see an even more limited free iApp version too. If they limited it to 4 or 6 channels, then you could probably let it run with a G3 too. A lot of musicians and amatuers who might be most interested in it use iBooks. Not sure they'll buy a PowerBook just for a $300 SoundTrack app, but if you'd weened them with a free version that did run on a G3, then another 12 months down the line they'd be buying a PowerBook and Soundtrack. We've used it here at work in FCP4 and it could definately be useful, especially when making lots of video for sole distribution on the web.
