  anyone who has ever wanted a D&D type freeware game has got to try this. If you have to time to learn the controls, it will entertain you for a loooonnnggg time.

  Pros

  Great and very challenging PvX system. Many classes, many spells, weapons. Large bestiary. Even reading the game manual is fun. It is maybe the only game which I played with a feeling that I will die myself if my character dies.

  Cons

  It uses ASCII symbols and black console window for output. Controlling the character with keyboard only is terrible nowadays, too. This game doesn't let you to reload save files (unless you know how to hack that), and since you don't know all the rules from start, you have to learn each new one by just dying because you didn't know it. E.g. I didn't know kobolds are bad food, became sick - and died. In my next game I know that I won't die because of kobold meat - I will die after eating a bee corpse instead.

  I hated it, the graphics were so bad, i didn't even know that the little blob of color in that 2x2 box was the screen. The water was lines of blue.... thats sad. Srry, i would not reccomend this game.

• Best Text adventure, in my opinion

  Pros

  i loved the layout of this game. It took me a while(about half an hour) to get used to the controls. Of all the other RPG text games that ive played, this one stands out and i keep on coming back to it, wanting to get to lvl 5.

  Cons

  Some ppl might not like the whole text setup but what u see is what u get. also, beginners will have a hard time staying alive but u get strategies on survival after a while.

  It allows for imagination and has alot of items and character development. A lot <p>of creativety without popups telling you <p>the program will end or anything else. <p>If you love the early days of programming <p>you'll appreciate the complexity that went into programming It. the only drawback is the Graphics...remember the ">" command to enter citys and caves.

  Okay, one word of advice to everyone who thinks this game sucks, you don't know how to play a real RPG! To say that you don't have to think in this game is stupid! True, I haven't gotten past level 7 in experience, but at least I know how to play an RPG! The fact that I get killed only means I am not thinking hard enough! The problem with you people is that you play "Final fantasy" and the like, and get used to the fact that you don't have to think in those games. Then, you play this game, use the same tactics, get your butt kicked, and then cry about it. And to say that its just as easy to get killed at a higher level... Duh! That's the point! You know what I think? You are all jealous, because Tom is better at making RPG's then you are. Okay. This game may have ASCII graphics, but that is not the point. Roguelikes allow for the most depth of any game. The thing that makes them so hard to make, is making them deep any large rather than making 3d graphics. I know, I have tried. ADOM, puts depth to the max, with hundreds of items. Weapons, potions, rings, amulets, you name it. And don't get me started on the many class\race combinations. Each starts with different items to start. Then you have skills, which can help you make your way throught the vast world of towns, rivers, forests, and dungeons. All in all. 3 Thumbs up for ADOM!

  ok yes I know it's text-based yes I know its really hard yes I know it takes ton of keystrokes to remember but 1 it's free 2 graphics r important but not if the game is going to suck game first graphics 2nd 3 u have a brain numbskull use it for something 4 it's free

  I have paid far too much money over the years for games which either do not come up to their hype or simply look good without being well made. This is for serious gamers; graphics-junkies should not apply. By one niggle is about saving the game, but I guess life is tough so why should games be easy...
