Though not a full-blown image editor, this application provides a nice set of effects for juicing up your photos. AMS Image Effects' clean-looking main window is a self-explanatory affair, though we do wish you could open an individual image rather than only folders. The left pane shows a thumbnail display, while most of the main window is reserved for a large preview panel. A floating box provides access to around 20 filters, such as antialiasing, Gaussian blur, fisheye, emboss, and posterize. AMS Image Effects can automatically apply each filter for you, or you can adjust them yourself with a handy slider. However, if you seek more utilitarian tools such as red-eye removal and cropping, you'll need to look for another program. After you're satisfied with your new images, you can save it as a JPEG, a GIF, or a BMP. Creative-minded shooters who already own a more basic image-editing app will find this program a decent addition to their arsenal.
