Altervault: Hidden Photo Vault for Android

Altervault: Hidden Photo Vault is a multimedia application designed for Android users who prioritize privacy and security for their personal photos, videos, and documents. This free app employs advanced encryption methods, specifically XChaCha20-Poly1305, to ensure that all files, including thumbnails and filenames, are protected before they are saved to the device's storage. With features like local-only storage, offline operation, and a zero-knowledge architecture, users can maintain complete control over their sensitive media without relying on cloud services or tracking mechanisms.

The application offers unique security measures such as access via PIN or emoji codes, a decoy gallery for additional privacy, and a shake-to-hide function that quickly conceals the vault. Users can also create encrypted backups to facilitate device transfers while keeping their data secure. However, it is important to note that the responsibility for recovery rests solely with the user, as the developer cannot assist in resetting access codes. This app is ideal for those seeking a secure and offline solution for managing private media.
