This file-archive tool is simple to use but offers little new functionality to compress or extract files, and suffers from some occasional stability issues. Alpha ZIP's simple interface offers oversized buttons to open or create ZIP archives, and both processes are easy to follow. The program lets you view folder contents and launch files in an existing zipped folder and supports drag and drop to easily add files to a new archive. You'll also find an AlphaZip folder on the Windows Explorer's context menu. You can easily choose compression options, create a self-extraction tool, and, with the registered version, apply password protection to an archive. Though we liked the simplicity of this application, the only extra feature it offered was the ability to test an archive's validity, and we encountered some errors during testing before the archive process could complete. You'll have 20 days to evaluate the trial version. Despite this archiving utility's ease of use, the issues we encountered make it hard to recommend, and users should look elsewhere for a more stable alternative to manage zipped files.

AlphaZip is great software. WinZip is also very good, but I tried to unzip an incomplete file just yesterday and WinZip wouldn't even try. AlphaZip could actually unzip it, although the very bottom of the image was cut off (no <p>fault of AlphaZip, the zip file was corrupted) Also, I can use AlphaZip <p>when I run across unusual (for me) file types that I needed to open - like <p>gzip. <p> <p>I have yet to see WinZip do anything that AlphaZip couldn't handle, and AlphaZip actually seems to do a lot more. I like the way it integrates with Windows Explorer. <p> <p>AlphaZip has a lot of good features. The editor's review completely missed the boat, IMO.

The uninstall is completely horrid and fails to remove various registry entries which cause Explorer.exe to crash. Inexcusable. DO NOT DOWNLOAD. However, if you do, make sure to run "unregister.bat" before you uninstall it. Even this doesn't remove a ton of registry entries.
