  Publish to PDF Great controls on typography Good for arrangement of layout for different paper sizes and format

  Its not meant for interactivity - Don't have Hue/Saturation/Lightness control - Cannot key in WEB color hex codes - Buttons and other forms of interactivity are best leave for other programs. They did it much better. - Slow in performance

  Summary

  It is definitely not a replacement for any interactive tools. If Adobe wants inDesign to be more capable, make it more user-friendly, instead of adding features which other programs are better in doing.

  Pros

  Fantastic integration with photoshop and illustrator. More typographic control that you'll ever know or need.

  Cons

  Its processor intensive! you need to work in a resolution higher than 1020x768 to enjoy the user interface. That means a big monitor.

  Summary

  If you have the money, buy.

• A great application for product manual creating

  Pros

  I purchased the Master Collection CS4 last month. And, I'm quite happy with it right now. Especially the Adobe Indesign program. It really helps me a lot with my manual designing.

  Cons

  I did know why sometimes it works so slow. And, sometimes it freezes for a moment when scrolling down the page and review.

  Summary

  A Good one to pay for.

  - Does some things like PageMaker did. - Pushed me into discovering PagePlus--a great PM replacement.

  Cons

  - User interface way too bloated--hard to find common stuff. - Use of two different kinds of select tools is very confusing. - Hard to place and size graphics, due to brain-dead frames which get in the way. - Generally hard to use and unfriendly.

  Summary

  Having used PageMaker (PM) for over twenty years, I tried hard to learn and like InDesign. Hate it. They took a perfectly useable program, PM, and made it unbelievably hard to use. What were they thinking? The root of the problem is the schizoid existence of TWO selection tools, white and black. Sometimes you use one and sometimes the other. Related to that nonsense is the fact that every object has frames now, which constantly have to be dealt with. For example, if you size or move a graphic, part of it may disappear because you haven't sized or moved its frame. I was constantly running into major hassles with simple things. For example: When a paragraph ends at the bottom of a page, you want to extend the text box below the margin to include the blank line after the paragraph so the following text starts at the top of the next page. But if you have page numbers on the master page, it won't work. The presence of the master page item deflects the blank line onto the next page. You have to delete the blank line. Then, if you reflow the text, you're likely to end up with two paragraphs butted together. I was constantly running into hassles like that. Worked fine in PM. What were they thinking? Fortunately, there is a great solution: Get PagePlus from Serif. (I'm not affiliated.) It does everything that PM could and more. Very easy to use and intuitive. Even something simple like placing and sizing a graphic

  Pros

  I was a new user to desktop publishing software a few months ago, and InDesign allowed me to make outstanding quality materials for my business. I suggest spending time learning the software from a manual or class, but the learning curve is not long.

  Cons

  None, but I have tried other desktop publishing software.
