Fast and it works. I also like all the learning resources they now have on their site. I'm often confused about citing sources, paraphrasing and all that mess. Their tutorials are definitely helpful.
Cons
A bit pricy if you're a humble teacher like me!
Summary
As someone already mentioned, I feel good knowing that my documents are safe and secure and being used for other purposes as it's the case with pretty much all the free plagiarism detection services out there. This company is located in the U.S. and is bound by American privacy laws. To me that's very important because I'm responsible for my students' documents and don't want them to end up in the wrong hands or be sold to paper mills.
Not perfects but does the job
CelenaClarks
Pros
You can try it for free before committing to purchasing a membership, the free trial, however, doesn't allow you to see the sources. What I like about it is that it's fully online and I didn't have to download anything to my computer. Plagiarism detection was fairly accurate but there were some false positives. I also like the fact that they don't keep a copy of my students' papers, which is typical with most plagiarism checkers
Cons
They only allow up to 5 submissions per day, so if you are a teacher and need to scan more than 5 papers, you have to upgrade to a teacher's account at a higher price.
Summary
Aside from Turnitin, which is getting ridiculously expensive each year, this is the only plagiarism software out there that does a fairly decent job and at a reasonable price.
Works as advertised
alpha44
Pros
Simple to use. You can either copy/paste your text or upload entire files. I like that it supports PDFs as well. The report is very clear and easy to read. I like their customer service who reply to support tickets within the hour....very rare these days!
Cons
Reports can take longer to generate during peak times when many users are scanning their papers. The good thing is that your receive an email when it's ready.
Summary
It would be nice if they added suggestions on how to edit plagiarized content. Overall, however, I think it's a good plagiarism detector and very reasonable in terms of the cost.
I've tried a few, and this one is by far the best
Kattipton
Pros
Fast, accurate and supports multiple databases. Their institutional account offers custom archiving to check against previous submissions from the same school...very neat feature.
Cons
It's not free, but again, you get what you pay for. This is not one of those free plagiarism checkers that use Google to scan your papers.
Summary
As a teacher who is constantly dealing with plagiarism in my classes, this software proved to be the best deterrent to discourage my students from plagiarizing in the first place.
