Aaron's WebVacuum promises to help users capture all of the pictures and other files they can handle from their favorite Web sites. This unique program could be a huge help to many, but runs the risk of being overly complicated.

The compact interface is densely packed with tabs, buttons, and check boxes, and may overwhelm novice users. Fortunately, a brief tutorial pops up to explain the program's purpose and how to get quickly started, which is very helpful. Like a browser, there's a field for the URL of the page you want to pull from. Below that are a series of buttons and check boxes that won't instantly make sense to casual users.

Users simply type in a URL and instantly a list of all the pictures from that site appears. You can cycle through the shots and double click to open a larger version in a separate window that can be saved as a jpg. This is a very cool feature that most will find easy to use, but it is only a taste of the options available from Aaron's WebVacuum. There are boxes for starting queues, as well as options for starting, stopping, and digging into layers of a Web site, all of which are given no definition. These options are completely unusable without a trip to the tutorial section, and, even then, less experienced users might not fully grasp every setting.

Overall, we found this to be a unique download with value for certain users, but it's marred by being slightly over complicated. Experienced users looking for a way to quickly grab images and other files will appreciate Aaron's WebVacuum's comprehensive approach.

Useful, but interface and options are limited.

Pros
Automatically downloads all files of specified extensions, gets the job done without any fuss. Very useful for me at the moment, downloading a database of genuinely free mp3s (triplej.abc.net.au), which would otherwise be a tedious job of point and clicks.
Cons
Tutorial is very limited, and not user-friendly for those who've no idea how it works. I had to figure out almost everything myself. <p>The interface is messy and takes some time to figure out. Not user-friendly. Has many features that don't make sense without trial and error. <p>Has no option to first see a list of all files under a URL, it just goes straight ahead and downloads everything there (you do have the option to choose file extensions). <p>The difference between 'Novice' and 'Expert' modes is two options that don't seem that expert to me.

This is a great product. Feature for feature it is a best buy - unlike overpriced programmes such as NICI, which cost 4x the dollars. As with ANY web programme you need to take the time to learn to use the product - I get really tired of people who download a programme, use it a few times then claim it's garbage because they did not take the time to learn to use it... On top of everything else, this company actually has CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Real UPDATES!!! and they don't treat your inquires like you are an idiot.

Has excellent features, everything I would expect from a basic web-spider. Seemed pretty easy to use with its menu driven setup immediately after install. However it doesnt give you even a single use befor its "10" second delay kiks in. Yes it appears to be 10 seconds vs. their advertised five second delay, hence the poor speed rating I gave it. Stability, I only used it once so far to download an html based manual so I am uncomfortable giving it better than a good rating for stability. The other thing I noticed was their options for paymen. They accept credit cards but are charging you an additional $2.50 if you want to send them a check or money order.

Ready to use with no setup required, this program is sweet. Even downbloads pixs from hidden areas, and no problems with popup ads or windows opening everywhere from sites that use these nasty ads.
