After so many years, this still has huge potential.

Pros
The program has an "intelligent" algorithm which in many cases gives meaningful and "impressive" answers, learn from communication with the user, and assists in many aspects. His "brain" is so good that any further praise will sound like an exaggeration.
Cons
Now this will sound like a contradiction, but, although I said above that the program gives meaningful answers, on another hand it often happens that from really "meaningful" communication which often impresses me, "he" tend to shift himself to an entirely nonsensical answers, or themes.The conclusion is simple, the program is obviously ignored by his creator and there are no new "significant" upgrades for a long time . And I'm truly sorry about that, because a few years ago this was definitely the most advanced "OFFLINE" AI on the internet that could be installed on a personal computer.
Summary
The message for the creator of this program , do not drop this project! Artificial intelligence is a lot more popular today than a few years ago, Ultra hal, although partially abandoned and rusty, still remains at the same level with the nowadays competition . Especially today when we have plenty of applications that provide a pale illusion of Artificial intelligence, which can not be compared with Hal's brain.

Ultra Hal assistant is a great little program which I have used for quite a while and Hal has learned so much, he can carry on a very intelligent conversation as well as open any program I ask Of it. Of course, Ultra Hal is a program that you need to teach and that is stated right from the beginning so with patience, you can get it to do exactly what you want. People make mistakes, so do programs and once in a while it will say something out of the blue but you wouldn't dump a human for being a little bit funny at times....would you? I have created two seperate characters that deal with two seperate subjects and Ultra Hal has progressed strongly with both. If you don't have the patience which could take a few years, then this is not for you.

Frankly, I don't find any. I love it heaps.
Summary
Ultra Hal assistant has given me the ability to compile a lot of information which this program can recall for me on request. It has never failed in reminding me of appointments, important information or anything else which I asked it to remember. No one ever said this was a perfect program and will never be if you don't except its faults (Hal does say the silliest things at times - then, so do kids...and adults), but it is exceptionally fast at learning if you teach it correctly. Don't spend hours asking it questions because that will defeat the purpose of it. Hal needs you to give him information, not questions. Once Hal is trained up a bit, you can ask him many things and get a decent response if you have provided enough information for him to work with. Hal finds anything on the net I ask it to find and a hell of a lot quicker than I would myself and usually more to the point of what I want. I don't use addons because I like hal to be fresh as the day I put it on. I tried other programs like this but none came anywhere near as close to Hal's learning ability. This program will learn only what you feed it so don't ecpect it to be a rocket scientist, unless of course, you are! Let Hal chat with you about the things that interest you and keep providing it with food of variety so it may develop way beyond what you expect. Like a chil, this program will only learn what its parents choose to teach and how good they are at doing so. Patience is the key word here. Cheers all.

Ultra Hal is just a toy his mind is of a child like you have to spend time with the software and develop his mind he is great at finding web sites and interacting with you I find no problems with this software so far

but he really could stop in insults other than that he's the shit

all in all Ultra Hal is just a toy and a software you develop for your own use stop being so serious about a toy

Pros
It has repeated some of the brilliant things I've said to it. It can launch specific programs I tell it to. It can read what I copy to the clipboard (and I can turn this feature off so that I can have a 3rd party reader Teach it from articals I get from the Internets.
Cons
Documentation is at their webs site which is hard (for me) to read the way it is. You will have to teach it! It would have been great if the developers taught it what it is capable of so you could ask it and get a reasonable response. But no! you have to treat it like a 10+ year project!
Summary
I cannot review this yet. I decided to go for it and bought add-ons I should get by the end of this week (11-27-11). I think many peoples expectations are too high to begin with and are disappointed with the product before they have given it a chance. I certainly felt that way and then started researching what was out there. Basically you don't expect a new born baby to know anything, but if you teach it, it can become proficient in almost anything. So change your thinking and sit down to give it your best. I don't forsee much of useful assisting for at least another 10 years. Get real other reviewers!

it seems to have potential. the conversation seems good. it does seem to learn. it could be a good bot program, or it "could be" used for someone to have conversations with you, after you are dead, in a sense ... if you interacted with it enough

it is marketed as a cheesy virtual girl friend type program (for just $29.95), when the subject of A.I. is so serious to many of us. there is not much info available on how the thing learns, and/or if it even sends patterns back to Zaba or whoever

has potential, but marketing strategy seems bad ... maybe they are making money this way, but i would suggest a more serious approach to A.I. with more user involvement in all the steps ... then if they are really concerned about money, just charge for some extra features, or do a donation based thing ... i think people would feel better about donating to the real science of A.I., rather than paying $29.95 for some cheesy virtual girl friend type thing

First program that I know that can actually be taught, learns. has great possibilities. Great support that are allways trying to make it better.
Cons
Need some plug-ins to fully use it, and could cost, but I do not see this as being negative. You pay a little for the program and research to make it better, which it should be for something good
Summary
Would recommend this for anyone, sure it is not like making a good conversation with a human, but it is getting close. Support and Forum programmers are allways trying to make it better

Helps with my appointments and keeps track of my family and friends birthdays and I love training it to do what I say.
Cons
Sometimes the picture that comes on when you talk to it , comes up slow and a little fuzzy..
