This novice-friendly tool makes it easy to add or remove programs that load at startup. StartPro's simple file tree and result window interface will be instantly recognizable to any level Windows user. On start, this application helpfully lists startup programs by location in the Registry, startup folder, or in the win.ini file. Toggling a program to load or not takes only a single click in StartPro's program list.
In addition to controlling the startup lists, you can easily click a file to find the program name and path. Sorting all lists by program path or name is quickly accomplished by clicking the appropriate list header. We really like the feature that stores all startup data for any program you delete. Restoring a file to load on startup then takes only a click in the SmartBin.
In addition to helping with startup programs, StartPro makes it easy to start and stop any Windows Service. Context-clicking any service also opens a helpful properties dialog. Intermediate to advanced users will like how well this program replaces Msconfig.
Version 2.0 includes added protection against overwriting the msdos.sys file with a malformed msdos.sys, updated menus to properly change after selecting the SmartBin, the addition of contextual menus to SmartBin items, miscellaneous bug fixes, the correction of a major bug that caused StartPro to lock up when used in Windows 2000, and the correction of a bug that prevented StartPro from retaining its window size and position.
