Slack gives you the tools you need to communicate effectively with all members of your team, no matter how large the group or complicated the project. Through this app, you'll have the ability to send messages to the entire team or only smaller subsets, so you'll always have confidence that the right information is getting to the right people.
Channels and Groups: When you first open Slack, there will be two default Channels set up for you already. These are General, for all work-related communication, and Random, for other comments and discussions that don't involve work. You can edit the purpose of these Channels as you see fit, and you can also create new ones for other specific purposes. Additionally, you can create Groups to enable quick communication with subsets of your team without cluttering up the feeds of other members who may not need that information.
Versatility: This app is capable and versatile. In addition to the organizational ability that Channels and Groups provide, you can also configure the software to send you specific types of Notifications, and you can add all kinds of files, from photos to documents, quickly and easily.
Temporary breaks: There is no master option for pausing your Notifications temporarily. That means if you take a vacation or just want to turn off work for a while, you'll have to go through and adjust all of your Notification settings manually. And then when you come back, you have to go in and turn them all back on again.
Slack is an excellent tool to help you keep your team working efficiently and on the same page at all times. It offers enough structure while still leaving room for you to customize it to meet the specific needs of your team and your project. It's also free, so you can try it out without reservation.
