This PC-privacy utility takes care of the basics but isn't as robust as many of its competitors. Privacy Cleaner zaps your surfing history from Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera browsers as well as from common Windows system areas such as the Recent Documents list, the Run menu, and the Recycle Bin. The interface couldn't be called pretty, but it is logically arranged and simple to use. However, support for the cleaning of third-party applications is limited to only a few programs such as the Google Toolbar and WinZip. Privacy Cleaner can remove junk files and delete specified folders, but since it won't let you choose from different secure deletion algorithms, we wouldn't use it with sensitive data. On the plus side, we appreciate the inclusion of a Boss Key, which will instantly hide all browser windows at the touch of a hot key. Privacy Cleaner might appeal to novice users with basic needs, but you won't have a hard time finding a more powerful utility in this class.
