• Works great for that quick and dirty scan

  Pros

  Very competent and accurate. Recognizes my sheet feeder on my all-in-one. It works in Windows 10 perfectly.

  Cons

  One very annoying thing is that when the software starts, it positions itself half-way off the screen and I have to move it over EVERY TIME I use it. Does not do multiple pages - small con.

  Summary

  For the casual/normal user, this FREE software will provide nearly all the capability that you need.

  - Simple Stand-Alone app. - Feature-packed. Could not need more. - Awesome Duplex-Scanning. - Highly configurable. - FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  Cons

  Interface has all buttons anchored. Such a shame to a great software!

  Pros

  The scanner shows up in the settings window.

  Cons

  The only button that does anything is the Copy/Move to FTP button. And all it does is tell you it can't do anything. The developer's website, www.metadms.sk, doesn't exist anymore.

  I got a Visioneer Paperport Onetouch 5300 scanner at a yard sale, with everything except the software disc and the instructions. These items were not needed, as I could find them on the Internet. But the problem was, the scanner needed software not available for free on the internet to run(scansoft paperport). But then I found MetaDMS and my problems were solved. To all people with old, discontinued scanners, please get this software!

  Pros

  It is a free software that scans paper to PDF/JPG and stores in LAN file system of WAN FTP using my network scanner. This is the most robust FREE option out there.

  Cons

  This interface could be much more intuitive. Regarding the interface having the settings option at top would be preferable as well as a file dialog box to select save location.

  Summary

  It is functional and FREE, but not the most user friendly. I will use it!

• Works better than Paperport

  Pros

  Paperport didn't work on Windows 7 so I came to Cnet to look for a program that would. This little program is packed full of options and features. Works great and Iove it.

  Cons

  only one place (folder) to scan to (set up in main options) doesn't ask where you want to save it to each time or have a "folder view". Just a little extra step that I have to take but still like the program.

  Check it out for yourself!
