Launchpad-Control for Mac adds a pane to your Mac's System Preferences, giving you control over which apps show up in Launchpad and what order they appear in, something that Apple neglected to bake into this new feature.

Installation of Launchpad-Control for Mac goes as easily as any other add-on control panel for System Preferences. We downloaded the file and launched it, and within seconds our new preferences pane was available. The pane is organized as an alphabetical list of all applications broken down into separate pages. It's a pretty intuitive interface and we immediately set to work, deselecting several of the apps that we don't use often and reorganizing them into logical groups by page. After making these changes, we started up Launchpad to see the results of our alterations. Not much changed. In fact, most of the apps that we tried to remove from Launchpad remained, and any location changes we attempted had no impact. To find answers, we clicked the "Help" icon from the preference pane, which took us to the developer's Web site. Here we learned two important bits of information. The first is that development on this app has been discontinued. The second is that it has some serious problems under Mountain Lion (which we used for testing) and the developer will offer no support.

Launchpad-Control for Mac could have been a valuable tool for decluttering the Launchpad interface, and perhaps it still is for OS X Lion. It is entirely useless for Mountain Lion, though, with no hope for improvement.

Developer's Description

Already upgraded to Mac OS X Lion? Yes? Well then you certainly know Launchpad, the "home for your apps" like Apple says.

A huge disadvantage of Launchpad is that every app located in your /Applications folder is shown. That means that you will see little helper programs like uninstallers or updaters, too. These apps can't be hidden from Launchpad easily because Apple does not provide any preference pane or tool to do so.

Launchpad-Control is a small tool which allows you to easily hide/unhide apps (and groups) from Launchpad in Mac OS X Lion.
