Pros
Many great features if you like "hands on" approach to plotting your course on land or sea. Ability to import wide range of map formats. Some good 3D graphics features using elevation data. There is a neat interface with GoogleEarth. Interfaces easily with my Pocket PC. This software is well suited to navigation geeks.
Cons
PC software is way too cumbersome and redundant, function was definately an afterthought to features. Included street maps are woefully outdated. For all the formats you can import you cannot import a PDF (all the USGS maps are offered free in PDF format). The Pocket PC software is a bit flakey with graphics that are substandard, only just barely usable for 'in car' navigation.

The laptop/desktop version of the software is perfect for users who want to create a large map area from many different map tiles. For example, I had a large atlas of South Korea that I wanted to calibrate for GPS. I scanned all 650 maps in the atlas and then calibrated each in Fugawi so that I can jump from one map to the next with a click of the mouse. In the field, this means that if I'm on map 243, for example, it will automatically load the correct map if I move beyond the range of that map and continue tracking. This is a really powerful feature, since I can store the equivalent of a huge Atlas in JPEG format on my laptop, with the entire atlas GPS-ready. Also, the maps can be in any projection--you only need to select 3 or 4 points to calibrate the map. There also doesn't seem to be any waypoint or trackpoint limit in Fugawi--I've drawn about 35,000 trackpoints on one map without difficulty, and several thousand waypoints.
Cons
The Palm version of the software needs work (to be fair, this is a very new product). With the Garmin Ique, I noticed that waypoints uploaded from Fugawi can only be viewed when running the Palm version of Fugawi. They don't appear in the regular Waypoint menu of the device. Also, when displayed on the map, the waypoints from Fugawi are all showed with the same icon, and there is no way to see the name of the waypoint without selecting it. <p> <p>The maps uploaded into Palm have only 3 levels of magnification (which can be set by the user). This is reasonable, but it would be better if the software could allow greater flexability of scale. <p> <p>These are mere annoyances, and should be corrected by later editions of the software.
