The Free Convert to Divx AVI WMV MP4 MPEG Converter is an application for converting your video files into another supported format.

The features of this application are pretty simple. All you need to do is click Add to select a video and then click Convert to start the process. The time varies, depending on the file size. Also, the Format and Profile options that you choose will influence the conversion time. AVI video format seems to take longer (10 to 15 minutes for a 15-minute video), but MPEG-4 video is done in about 2 minutes for the same video size. The quality varies. Setting the Profile to Source made the images in the video blurry and a little delayed. Setting it to Higher or Highest quality resulted in a clear video, with no sound problems.

There's a tutorial available with images to make the instructions even easier to understand. There's also a FAQ page available, and links to the publisher's Web site and e-mail address. You can also quickly check for upgrades with the Upgrade button.

The download process was fast. Certain aspects of the installation process could be confusing to the average computer user, but there shouldn't be any significant issues once you get past that point, and it doesn't take very long to set everything up.

I always enjoy a good laugh

Pros
It only wasted 10 minutes of my time.
Cons
I tried to convert a 1920X1080 9min mp4 clip to a 1920X1080 avi file. It only converted 3mins worth and it took it 10mins to do that. The result was unplayable with VLC, Windows Media Center, Divx Player or Media Player Classic. And they think such performance will tempt me to buy the upgrade? Apparently their business acumen matches their programming skills..
Summary
This piece of limp-ware is a total waste. Its only value is as an evaluation tool. And as such, it worked. It proved to me it cannot handle the straightforward task of converting a large resolution video clip to a different format. So why in heaven's name would anyone buy this when there are so many truly free converters that can handle the small chores?
Has restrictions, have to pay for the upgrade.

Pros
Seems to work
Cons
Not actually free - only converts files partially. Paid upgrade required.
Summary
Uninstalled because "free" version only converts part
lrmackenOctober 28, 2014
Pros
CNET editors gave glowing recommendation
Cons
CNET editors should have told the truth up front. "Free Convert" is a misnomer and they should have warned their members what the full version costs so an informed decision could be made prior to install.
Summary
not free, monkey translation

Cons

Pros
It doesn't give you any viruses
Cons
It claims to be a free converter and then turns out NOT TO WORK unless you upgrade to the pay version.
Summary

DANGER! THIS DOWNLOAD IS INFECTED BY THE CONDUIT VIRUS!
rbhotherAugust 21, 2013
Pros
You've got to be kidding.
Cons
DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS OR ANY OTHER DOWNLOAD.COM SOFTWARE! DON'T BE ANOTHER VICTIM! I should have read the large number of one-star reviews. Instead, I was in a hurry, and so I wasted hours trying to remove the Conduit adware virus from my computer that this download infected my computer with. I had to edit the registry, reload Chrome, manually search through my drive for hundreds of pieces of this infection.
Summary
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!
Junk - Unwanted Software - No Program
utahgurrgleJune 4, 2013
Pros
None what so ever.
Cons
Downloaded via the CNET downloader and ended up with only unwanted software and no Free Convert program. What a bunch of crap and wasted time.
Summary
Normally love CNET, but have been experiencing many problems with the downloads and searching for a new resource.
Worthless waste of time and space
nealberkApril 15, 2013
Pros
free, easy to use.
Cons
All video produced by this product displays a large banner in the middle of the display. It makes the free version totally worthless. I would give it zero stars if it were possible.
Summary
Don't waste your time.
Free version is Absolute rubbish
RalphhollandApril 8, 2013
Pros
None I could see
Cons
Converts only 2 mins of any clip I tried. Full of malware including at least 5 other bits of software.
Summary
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS RUBBISH. CNET SHOULD BE DISGUSTED BY THEMSELVES
